need some basic information
Hey everyone im new to this forum, and ive got a couple questions. First off i drive a 2003 mustang GT thats automatic and Vortech supercharged with flowmasters and bbk off-road x pipe and 3:73 gears. My questions is what is the most RWHP my engine and tranny can take? My next question is if i change the pully to a 3.40" and add the accufab plenum/throttle body combo, as well as some bbk shortys can i hit the 400RWHP mark and will the car hold up. my goal is 400RWHP.Thanks for your input

if clutched correctly, it will hold more than 400. if you overclutch it you will do what i did on mine. the motor will hold low 400's tuned correctly, it can hold more if the motor is and has been properly maintained and the tune is spot on.

If you're intercooled, 400 is fine as long as you know how to drive the car, but I'd keep it under 400 ...

nothing wrong at all going past 400 if the car is tuned correctly.

It just becomes ALOT more likely that you're gonna end up with a thread titled:
Motor Blew: Time for a rebuild, where do I start ? Better to be safe than sorry, even with the safest tunes ... once you eclipse that 400-425 rwhp mark .. you're just asking for it

because I've seen it happen time and time again, these cars are unpredictable even on good tunes, I've seen some gt's handle 450 rwhp for years and I've seen some blow on 400 rwhp after a few months .. these comming from the same tuners etc .. granted in general .. 400 rwhp on with a good tune should carry you a ways .. you never know with these cars .. esp on turbo apps, but this concerning a centri blower .. I've seen rods go numerous times

but aren't you around 400-425hp anyway if you have a manual tans and a blower? and maybe a few supporting mods

if a vehicle is properly maintained, there is no reason it should have any trouble with 425 and a good tune.

A good intercooler, Small pulley with Long Tubes, and a good tune you're 400 easy ..

wow, there is no way at all to argue either side of this. Some will hold strong, some will blow...thats just how it is. Seen some last for a long time and others blow really early. I honestly don't like the stock 4.6 bottom end, its pretty much garbage imo.
I will say this much though...400 whp through an auto is asking for troubles. Drivetrain loss through an auto is around 20% vs drivetrain loss of a manual that is around 12%. In otherwords (lets say 10% manual 20% auto just for easy numbers)...400 whp in a manual is about 440 crank hp but on a manual 400 whp is 480 crank hp....see where i am going with that? |

the drivetrain loss in a manual i a little more than that. manuals are roughly 15-17% loss. we are talking rwhp #"s, not fly #'s. if headwork is done, that will allow more as well. VE of a head is a key in making power, especially with the 2v set up. that is also where supporting mods and tuning is the key. i am not saying that these will not blow at 400, buit if ecerything is done correctly then it will hold beyond that. the condition of the motor is a key factor as well.

I've worked with two tuners and talked to several others. The word I get from them is that if your car is a daily driver you shouldn't go higher than 370-380 rwhp. Every one of them knows of a car running 420 that has lasted a couple of years. I was also told that they've seen motors blow on the dyno at 350. It just depends on the motor.
