im trying to repair the thread and put an insert for a sparkplug on my 99gt head, and i am wondering which inserts to use, theres a small, medium and long one.

Also i purchase a ngk tr55 and the thread is longer than the original autolite double platinum, is that normal?

Use the long one and measure the distance from the head deck to the top of the spark plug on an existing plug and check the insert depth to assure that the plug isn't in the head too far....

well i did that (used the long one) and the spark plug is higher than the previous one about 3/16. Not sure if it matters, i've put everything back together and the car seems to run fine, except the sound of the car is different ??

what i did: i threaded the spark plug hole with the tap putting grease on it to get most of the shaving. then i vacuumed it to get the rest of the shaving (i hope). then put loctite around the insert and screwed it in. then put anti seize on the tr55 spark plug and got it down on the new insert.

You should have used the spark plug to screw in the insert and checked the measurement as you went down. Being a little high probably won't matter, but I doubt that the insert is seated properly if it is too high.
