Oil pan dipstick provision

so my i just helped my friend put in his 7 qt moroso oil pan into his 03 gt but the one thing that he didnt realize when he purchased it is that it didnt have a provision for the dipstick. Now my question is can he use a longer dipstick or should he get one welded into it so that he can get good readings. Right now he is using his stock dipstick but it only touches the bottom of the stick. If we can use a longer one anyone know of a place where we can order it. Thanks.

my 02 takes 6 an a half quarts stock... i think you just need to add more oil. not a longer dipstick

i sure hope it aint.....

and for the 7qt pan it means more fluid--idk if that means the stock was a 5qt and then take into account oil galleys or passages...thus giving the 6qt standard...or what...but there better be a hole in that deep pan....keep filling the pan....its a 7qt pan bc its meant to hold more oil...not keep it lower and still use same amount. keep with the stock dipstick.

that is exactly what is on my buddies oil tank. we have filled it up with about 8 to 8 1/2 quarts and still not getting onto the dipstick. We already took into consideration the oil passages and oil filter and everything. He just wants to be able to accurately see how much he has and to see what it looks like.

Will it be a pain in the ass to get a new oil dipstick tube installed with the headers in the way?

u can get a lokar flexible dipstick and tube from either summit or jegs, im not sure which one anymore, maybe both. ur definatley gonna want the flexible one for ease of instalation. if u go with a factory replacment ull more than likely end up bending the tube trying to fish it down to the bung in the block. the flexibility of the lokar part helps a ton with that. it is an enormous pain in the behind however to get the old tube out of the bung as well as the new tube in. get the car up to operating temperature for both removal and installation. a good trick is to use a pair of vice grips and attach them as near the block as u can on the dipstick tube. then tap on the attached vice grips with a hammer and it will slowely tap the tube out of the block. this is a pretty tedious process, try to be patient. also be carefule not to overtighten the vice grips and crimp the old dipstick tube, but at the same time they must be tight enough to maintain a grip on the dipstick tube. sure its getting tossed in the trash afterwards, but a crimped tube is harder to attach the vice grips onto. when putting the new one in also have the car at opperating temp, but before hand put the new dipstick tube into a freezer for a few hours. the metal of the tube contracts a very small amount, but combined with the tiny expansion that occurs in the block's bung at opperating temp u'd be surprised how much of a difference it can actually make. fish the new tube down there and use the vice grips again on the new tube and tap it into place. put a little cold oil on the tip of the new tube to assist it in sliding into place. again, be careful not to overtighten ur vice grips and cash ur new dipstick tube! make sure it is fully seated and its a wrap.
