Automatic to Manual Swap
I have a 2002 GT that is completely stock. It has an automatic transmission though and I want to swap to a manual. It is a daily driver, but I will take it to the drag strip once or twice and to a road course too.
I don't know if I should go with the TKO-600 with the road course gearing or the T-56 6 speed. I know the TKO is stronger, and I do plan on adding power upgrades soon, but the T-56 would be better on the street. Please help me out. |

the t56 can handle a lot of power as well. the t56 is easily upgradable to handle well over 1000hp. that will be a personal preference choice there. i personally would do the t56.

The manual swaps realy aren't that bad. Me and sweet did mine and realy wasn't that hard. You have to splice in a main wiring harness connector but other than that it isn't bad. If you go to the T56 it will be a little more complicated because of the cross member and stuff but still isn't bad.

If I go with a stock manual trans (TR-3650?), do I need a new crossmember?

Its tough to mod the ol' car when you're makin' minimum wage and paying off college. But I'll be able to start buying parts soon when the summer comes.
I've come to the conclusion that I won't be making the power that I want to until much later on. So I'm going to look for a tranny out of a wrecked car that I can either rebuild myself or put straight in. Doing the work myself should save me some money. I'm guessing that if I buy parts off wrecked cars should be cheaper than buying a kit.

I am new to this site and realize this is an old thread but hopefully I can still get some guidance. I have an '01 GT with m/t and have recently purchased an engine and transmission out of a wrecked '03 Mach 1. The Mach 1 set up comes with everything to do the swap. Only problem is that it has an automatic transmission. What will it take to convert it to a manual transmission. I've heard that I will have to swap out the crankshaft because one is an eight bolt and the other a six bolt. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks
