Double DIN Monitor in a '99 GT?

i have a '99 gt and want to put a double din sized monitor/gps into it. the dash in the 99 has 2 single din sized slots that cannot acomidate a double din monitor. i talked to the local custom shop and they said that they will have to custom build the entire center piece of my dash from scratch in order for me to install the Double DIN sized components. I know that the newer mustangs( 2003, 2004) come from the factory with a double din sized slot as opposed to the 2 single din slots. i was wondering if i could just pick up a dash from a newer mustang and swap it in or if i really do have to pay 500-1000$ for a custom dash piece.

Yes you can but you'll have to modify the brackets. It is a lot cheaper than custom fabrication.

I personally don't use my radio half of the time. when I do use it I listen to cd's or my mp3 player. I'd rather stick the money where it matters most, under the hood.
