Ok so i have seen alot people asking about tuners so i figured i would give a shot at a write up on tuners. First of all ill start out with types of tuners.
There are different types of tuners for our cars, there are basic handheld, handheld strategy tuners.
Basic handheld. These types of tuners are your most basic. You can find them in such brands as Superchips or Hypertech. These tuner come with preloaded tunes or canned tunes. These tunes cannot be changed and usually only offer one performance tune.However they do allow you to correct your speedo for gear and tire change and also allow you to remove the top speed limiter and change your rev limiter.They also allow for changing in shift points and firmness in autostangs. Another neato feature is the abilty to pull DTC's from your stang when the check engine light is on.The tuner will allow you to check and clear any codes found. If you plan on heavy modding this probably wouldnt be the best choice for you, but if your only looking for a way to correct speedo and some other basic options then this may be the tuner for you.

Strategy Handheld. This is the type i personally own. There is a much wider selection of tunable perameters with this type of tuner. They are made by companys such as SCT, Diablosport, and Sniper. While Sniper isnt exactly a handheld it does offer some of the same features the SCT and Diablosport have. These style tuners are need when heavy modding is done to your stang. They contain all the all the functionality of a basic handheld but with alot more features. These features include the ability to take live datalog readings from your stang and the ability adjust a/f ration and make spark adjustments throughout the rpm range. A handy feature they also contain is the ability to turn off the traction control and rear O2 sensors when using a o/r midpipe.These tuners allow you to dyno tune or email tune to allow you to get the most out of your stang or just to get it running right when you slap on a power adder.

Choosing the tuner that is right for you. Ok so now you know a lil more about tuners...which one do you want to buy? Well most people will tell you to use what ever your performance tuner tunes with....and I agree. If you plan on using a dyno to tune out your car then you want to use a tuner that your speed shop tunes with. They will have the software to monitor your vehicle and make adjustments to the tune on your stang and create a custom tune best suited for your car and its mods. However if you plan on using the email tune method you will need to us a SCT tuner, all the email tuners i have seen on the net use sct. Tricktuners is who i am personally using to tune my car and so far i am very satisfied with the service and qaulity of the tune. So anyways hope this helps clear up a lil of the confusion on tuners.
