300 whp n/a?

I was planning on doing cams sometime in the next year or so...I have no idea what brand to go with and what specs would fit my car best (any suggestions would be great! )...I have a JLT fender well, bbk 75mm TB, and a c&L plenum..... I have bbk long tubes sitting in the corner waiting for install....I'm gonna pick up a catted x when I put on the long tubes...I plan on ordering a catback this winter (I cant decide between flowmasters, slp's, and pypes...any suggestions or comments?) I was jus gonna pull the heads and send them somewhere for some porting and polishing...any ideas on where to send them for good quality work at fair prices? I want to shoot for 300 whp and 300+ wtq... is it do-able with everything I have in mind?

btw....it still has the stock 3.23 gears in it which will be gettin traded for 3.73's eventually and my car will most likely never see the strip so anything past 5600-5800 rpm doesnt mean a whole lot to me as far as making power up there goes lol

300 is easily do-able. Your doing head work, with cams and LT's, and looks to be full bolt ons. No idea on cams specs if your going custom grind. But fox lake does good Porting. i think there are 2 more good companys too. Patriot being towards bottom of the list.

for cams i would go with the new hitech cams the stage 2s have nice idle. they use the stock valve springs too. they seem to be making more power they alot of the other cams. there is also cms cams make really good power too. as for exhaust i would go with borla or bassani. mac also sounds awsome.

I love my bassani. And cms is the old VT i believe? Thats the cams i use.

I would also recommend staying around stage 2's to keep power band mid range and drivability still good. I would replace springs. Hes already doing heads and such. Springs would be a good thing to put in. Just in case. Valve float sucks.

just curious but if you dont ever plan on going to the track why would you want to spend 3-5k (or more) on performance mods? a stock GT with a few bolt ons is more than fast enough for putting up & down rt30 & with everything you will give up (driveablity&mpg being the biggest) just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. but the offer from a while ago still stands you should come up to PRP one sat with us & see what its all about rather than listening to those guys down in Irwin about hp#s & dyno sheets that dont mean anything if you dont go to the track. jmo.

I wanted to use an off the shelf grind on the cams and I definetly want that awesome lumpy sound at idle...but not so lumpy that it wont idle...just enough to know that they are there I had planned on changing the springs while im there along with the timing chains and possibly the cam gears ( adjustable?) and maybe even the retainers and guide seals...the car has 71K miles on it so I figured it wouldnt be a bad idea. What do most companies charge to do head work? thanks for the quick replies guys...keep em comin!!

Some companys use your heads as a core charge. Stage 2's you will notice a difference at idle. And get good power. Some more than others... Head work will be expensive its like 2 grand (high end) and 1.5 or so for patriot. But thats with all the workings like new valves and stuff.

I dont think you will get 300 with just that, youll need the built block and all I believe. I ordered the CMS stage 2 cams, they are a reasonable price and if your doing cams you might as well do heads too. Whether you just P&P or buy aftermarket ones is up to you. Foxlake is prob the best IMO, but there is also livernois(sp), and a couple other ones. Cat-back is just a personal preference, get on you tube and check some different set ups out. They say some preform better than others and all that but its nothing noticable so dont worry about that. I had 2 chamber flows and they were ok, now I have the Bassani race muffler and it sounds absolutely amazing. If your not planning on going fi I honestly recommend 4.10's, I had 3.73's and Im in the process of changing my gears to 4.10's, they just didnt pull hard enough for me. Hope that helps and good luck with your build.

300+ is easily doable on stock short block, there are a few on here that have done it.

Like everyone has said 300 hp is easily attainable. For cams I would recoment the hitech stage 2, they are comp cams ground to hitechs specs. As far as heads go i would reccomend foxlake, livernois or mmr. Just start browsing there websites to get an idea of what you want. Also more airflow isnt always better. The more airflow you have the higher in the rpm band it will take for you to make the power, and you typically want to make it about midrange.

Comp 262AH is a great street cam. Nice fat torque curve and you don't have to rev the sh*t out of it to feel the difference. You would pick up a little more of a top end rush (maybe 5 HP) with Comp 270AH or another stage 2 cam.

you will pick up more than just 5 going to a stage 2. the stage 1 cams are good mild upgrades, but do not offer a whole hell of a lot. the stage 2 offers a little more than the stage 1's but really shine when head work is done.
