what to do with $7500? Mongoose kit maybe?
whats up guys,
i've finally reached an amount in which i can realistically consider a s/c--$7500. i've already pretty much got all of the bolt-ons, and i've been heavily considering the MPH Vortech s-trim Mongoose kit with a Paxton intercooler (driving down to have Tim install it himself for me). i've got an '03 gt with 58k on the clock and i ultimately just wanted to know what you all would do if you were in my situation w/ my budget and present mods (intake, tb, upper plenum, typhoon intake manifold, 3.73s, slp LTs, catted x-pipe, and LMs)? should i go with the supercharger or something else--like cosmetics, internal work, etc.?? Also, would it be safe to s/c with 58k on the engine (i've fortunately babied her as much as possible waiting for the day that i had enuf for a s/c)?? any feedback would be HIGHLY appreciated... |

You've got enough play room with horsepower that you can throw on a supercharger and tune it to run safely on your stock internals. I would personally build the engine up first to withstand any power I want to throw at it and then boost it. If you boost it then build it you will need to tune the car twice. If you build it then boost it you will only need one.
What suspension mods do you have done? Control arms work wonders off the line.

build up the internals first...imo the stock internals are garbage. For $7500 you can build up one hell of an engine that will handle a good bit of power. forged long block with p&p heads and cams will cost about $6500....no clue on how much labor would be. Check out corral.net MMR is always running specials on their engines on there.

By a vortech tuner kit and supporting mods for about 3200-3400 including chip. If you don't mind used or ebay then then you can do it even cheaper. Then forge the bottom end. If you shop well maybe even cams. Then either get or build your own ic setup later.

Like what? I haven't heard of any problems with Kenne Bell's product (key word, product
.)To answer the OP's question, it depends. If you plan on HUGE numbers, build up your engine then save up a little more for a TT setup, otherwise get the KB at around 9-10 PSI (roughly 400 RWHP on a good tune with your mobs) and you're set!

or go cheaper with a procharger and make 400 rwhp on 8-10 psi even after a few passes kb heat up horribly same reason the typhoon intake slows your car done if its cold you can make one good pass then downhill after that had a friend with a 700 rwhp gt 2v he went from centrificul to a roots style and regrets it to this day

What about the Intercooled 96-98 Cobra kit (2.8) at 16psi? Any heating issues with those? Car is my DD on some hot days in Michigan.
