Need Opinions
So Im already looking ahead in future mods. I already have ported heads and cams.(check garage for list of mods)
Right now Im trying to decide between these two options, my goal is to get as much power to the wheels as possible without hurting the motor. I plan to supercharge in the future but not now. The cams will probably go to AC for a custom grind. Which one will be better and cheaper? I dont mind how much it is, just want to know.: 1. Buy a built shortblock from MMR(if you know any better, let me know), Upgrade my heads, they are already ported so it will only be a hardware upgrade. Valves, valve guides, etc. 2. Forged my stock block, put new rods and pistons in. And do the same thing with the heads. Any advice or info, let me know. I dont know every single piece of what you can change on a head so a list will be appreciated. Thanks in advance |

depends on what kind of power you want to make... stock block should be good to close to 800rwhp.... you lookin at 3k for a GREAT rotating assembly... mmr 900 i think is close to 5-6k.... and is good to 1000hp... you do the math on that and tell me what is reasonable

unless its going to be a straight race car whats the point in buying a new block if you can build the stock block to withhold 800hp. keep the stock block and build from there

It not going to be a straight race car. Its going to be my daily driver for now, but will also be my weekend warrior. Ohh and the MMR 900 is $2899 + additional stuff you may want to add and shipping. I think Im okay with the 800.

~$1k For Forged Rotating Assembly (Piece it together on Corral)
~$3800 for MMR 900 Shortblock Personally I am going to piece together the forged internals just because of cost difference.

Building the block is more then enough to become a weekend warrior. Save the cash to pay for the hike in insurance when you get caught street racing!

the block is plenty strong, it will be the same thing mmr is selling with their 600 and 900 assembly's. if you have the tools and patients, just build your block. if not, then just buy a short/long block.

Have your block bored .020" over (even if it doesn't need it, the overbore will help to unshroud the intake valve a little bit), have your stock cast crank balanced, add a set of MMR H-beam rods, a set of .020" over forged pistons (I prefer Diamonds and you can usually find a good set on Ebay or some forums for 300-400 dollars), and take your time putting it together. This combo would be good for 600+ HP all day long and would save you a ton of cash.

That was my first choice. I was planning on getting an engine dolly and just take my time dismantalling the engine and putting it back together. Will ill save more money?

the amount of money you spend will be totally be up to you. you can spend less or more, but you will be in control of what is in your motor. not to mention saying that you did it yourself. the modular motor is not your average old school motors, these things are a different breed.

Thats part of what fuels my desire to build my own block, its just that feeling you get when they ask and you can say, I built it myself. Also like you mentioned, knowing what I did and put in it.
