Oil problem

I just changed the oil in my 99 gt like a week and a half ago, and I checked the oil and there isn't any on the dip stick. What could be causing my engine to burn so much oil so fast?

The oil filter will soak up some but not that much, after the oil change did let it sit for about 5 min. and thin check the oil level.

Sounds like a mistake was made when you changed the oil, if you car would have burned that much oil you would have sen it or differently smelled it.

Question: Did you change it yourself or did you farm the work out?

Its been known that the other guy forgot to put oil back in the car.

If you did it, did you check the oil pan plug? If its not leaking from there and it would have to be pouring out, and if someone else didn't change the oil, I have to agree with the other guys a serious mistake was made. But you would have the empty containers to prove that you did add 5 pints of oil. If your loosing that kind of oil your engine is shot. My mom had a 1995 mercury and it would burn 3pints of oil with minimal driving and I never smelled the oil burning. I would recommend a compression test, if it continues to disapear following a refill. Good luck and please tell us what the outcome is...Thanks..

I changed it myself and yes I put oil back in it, and no it is not leaking anywhere. I have not noticed any smell or anything, but it just seems to be burning it off real fast. I know driving it hard can cause that, but I don't drive it hard on a constant basis, especially not enough to burn the oil that quick.

Well, if it's not leaking then it has to be burning it off. How many miles did you drive before noticing it? Older engines will use oil and it's normal but I think if you are dropping enough that it doesn't register on the dipstick you have a real problem. Try doing a compression check on all cylinders to see if they are within specs.

The oil has to be going somewhere if you put the right ammount in there...

Was the oil filter snug or loose?
