4.30's are a must for an auto IMPO. It is a great street gear and you can still cruise under 3000 rpms if your not a manic on the highway. Drag racing is a different story though. Manuals can get away with 4.10's and still trap pretty high in the 110+ mph range before running out of rpm's. If your going to trap higher than 105+ mph with a 4.30 geared auto then you need to either choose or downgrade to a taller gear or increase the overall diameter of your tire...these two things will get your revs back down so that you may increase your top end speed.

well i have 315's in the rear for tires with a manual so i should be able to get my revs back down for higher speeds

the reves between a stock 245/45r17 tire and a 315/35r17 tire will be about the same. they are the close to being the same diameter.

False. Good gear for a N/A car, especially an automatic.

i beleive a 245/74R17 is 25.71" in dia. and a 315/35R17 is 25.79" in diameter so that little bit wont effect the rpms at all.

i found that out researching tires trying to find a larger diameter tire for the back of my car. it looks like i still have the stock springs in the back after putting my roush lower control arms in.
