I had this happen to me except I didn't catch it in time and it wore a hole in my oil pump and it almost wore through the timing chain cover. Thats what I was gettin at with the hose. Thats how I found out it was that. And you say it is comin from the passenger side cover, is it comin from the front, back, middle?

first let me just thank everyone for all the help. The noise in the video sounds similiar to my car at idle so i think i just found another problem. But the tick i have is from 2.5 3k rpm then goes away oh also when i start the car it makes the noise for a brief period of time prob around three seconds. I should also add that i only have 50k on the motor. I may have just hurt it, but ive never missed a shift and i dont think i have beaten it that bad. So who knows. Once i get money i may just tear the motor down

before you go tearing things apart you need to isolate the problem. take a screw driver or piece of wood...put it up against the valve cover and put your ear on the other side...check for the noise.

Also pullies can give you that same noise...pull the serpentine belt and start the car (make sure its cold first) rev it up a few times and check if noise is still there.

Mine only has 55,000 miles on it. I thought it was a rod bearing, but I killed all the cylinders and the noise was still there. So I pulled the valve covers off and checked the chain, and it was loose. But it was loud at idle and went away at higher rpm's. The noise sometimes was quiter than other times.

if you wipe a rod bearing, it won't sound like a tick. take my word for it...

Thats what I was getting at with the hose, I tried the screw driver but it didn't work near as good as it did with the hose. But if you really want to check it unbolt both valve covers and lift up the front of one at a time and pull on the chain. If you pull up and can see teeth that prolly what it is. Here is a vid and btw, the noise wasn't near as loud as that as it was on my car. Note this is the same car in both vids.

I wouldn't be quick to rule out a bad rod bearing. It sucks because that would be a worse case scenario. When my rod bearing went out it sounded exactly like a ticking noise. I had taken the car up to a 144 mph run (last time I'll ever do that) and when I came down from it I heard the ticking noise, even on the road.

I changed my oil and checked for tiny metal bits with a magnet, and sure enough there they were. I had to have my engine rebuilt. I had performance rod bearings put in, and the one rod had to be machined. Ask Rick at Rick's Car Care if you need any further explanation, he saw the damage and rebuilt it for me.

Rick did my rebuild, too...
when i wiped my rod bearing, there was no warning at all. no tick or anything. it just let go on George Wahington Highway up in Yorktown...
bad times, to say the least...

Ok so not to bring back a dead thread or anything, but I've been dealing with my own ticking sound, coming from both valve covers, but primarily the driver side. I ordered a new set of valve cover gaskets and I'm going to pull the valve covers off tonight to see if anythign is amiss. Provided it's not the tensioner, what else in the heads could cause a tick between 2k-3k rpms on partial throttle? I don't hear it on full throttle (could be because of the exhaust though) or when decelerating, just when I'm at cruising or slight acceleration.
