go to the dealership you bought your car from with a photo ID , your vin number and reg card. they can cut you a key off of that.

when I was driving trucks the keys would end up missing all the time ( lazy fuks) so the boss would have to have new keys made about once a month. lol

That would only work if he already has two programmed keys. If he doesn't have any (or even has one) programmed key, then he has no choice but to go to the dealership and pay the labor to have them program a new set of keys. Make sure to get 3 keys. That way if you lose one, you can buy another one and program it yourself without having to take it to the dealership. And FYI I work for Ford. When I worked at the front parts counter, I had to tell this grim news to customers all day long. Also, it's about $100 for programming labor here too. Each key here is $33 a piece.

The car has the "PATS" system (Passive Anti-Theft System). Keeps people from having a regular key and just starting your car. You have to have a chip key that is programmed to the vehicle to start it.

I think retail on the remotes is around $50 usually. That can be programmed yourself for free luckily. I think all the Mustangs should be the same remote. About $36 cost on them.

I thought the same thing but all the keys have a small transmitter in them. If you look at the top of your key (the new one you'll get) then you'll see a small rectangle cutout. Inside there is a RF transmitter to keep you from making your own key.

If you do get a new keyfob it's easy to reprogram. Get in your car and lock the door. Turn the key from the on position to the off position 7 times within 10 seconds. Once you hit the on position for the 7th time you locks should cycle. Press any button on the first keyfob and the locks will cycle again. Press any button on the next keyfob and the locks will cycle again (repeat for up to 4 fobs). Once you have all the keyfobs programmed turn the key off and the locks will cycle one final time.

Yeah it's a piece of cake. You just cycle the key on and off (usually 8 times for most cars), and the locks will pop up or down. Then just press a button on the remote and it's programmed

You can buy your key, but still have to get the car to the dealership and get it programmed and will almost cost the same let alone the wait time for it to get delivered

Yer fuct. You need to have it programmed either way. Whether you lose that key or want another key... Just an FYI..

If you have only 1 key, or no keys at all, no you can't program it yourself unfortunately. It will have to be taken to the dealership.
