I would leave it in. I've heard of people finding a leaf or seed in there once in a while.

You guys realize this thread is like a year and a half old right? haha

Anyway when you put in a CAI the directions tell you to take that screen out, so I doubt if it gives you better airflow readings or the directions would tell you to leave it in. This is directly from the JLT instructions, and they even have the part about not using the screen bolded

Unbolt your Mass Air Flow Sensor from the filter housing, and install the MAF filter adaptor. Do not reuse the
screen
.

Unless u have a JLT intake leave that fucker in. The last thing u want is shit getting into ur engine.

Just think, if u get a seed in there and it starts living off of the nice warm atmosphere and water from the radiator fluid, 3 years later ur gunna have a mother fuckin 4.6L oak tree under ur hood

....But then again, you could tell the environmentalists to go to hell, because you have a "green" car with limbs sticking out the tail pipes.

It says it on the K&N install sheet too. Directly from their instructions:

12. Remove the mass air sensor from the air cleaner. NOTE: The screen will not be reused.

If K&N and JLT (two top notch companies) both say not to reinstall the screen, then I really wouldn't worry about it guys.

EDIT And if something gets past the air filter, do you really think it's going to get caught in that mesh? I don't think that screen was put there for catching stuff, I think it was put there to regulate air flow and cut down on weird turbulance

unless you are running the stock air box, you should NOT have anything getting in your intake tube. If you do, then you have problems. theres no way anything like a seed and what not can get by my filter. Its all sealed off
