underdrive and engine balance

i read someowhere that putting underdrive pulleys on a vehical can mess some shit up because somehow it can throw the engine timing off, and mess the balance up...is that possible with our cars? The thing I read was just in general, and I wasn't sure about what cars that would happen on?

What you read was horse shit. Get a Chiltoms Manual at Advance Auto, and it will help you to understand how the engine timing works, in a 4.6

the 'problems' that people were complaining about is the charging system. my stock system was crap!!! when the car was at 5k rpms and above the lights would dim and the battery light flashed. the volts never dropped but what ever. i got the steeda kit and not a damn problem! voltage is fine, no more flashing battery light, lights dont dim, and gave me a little power.

on the 4.6 engine, if you switch to an underdrive pulley that does not have the balanced part of the pulley(piggie back style) it could cause bad vibrations and cause problems with the crankshaft. thats why most people run saleen, steeda ect.

piggie back like the bbk pulleys bold onto the stock balancer. you do not want this. you want a set that has the crank pulley and harmonic balancer all one piece. i had steeda on mine an had no problems.
