pcm flashing questions

Ok I have a 99 gt and an 01 gt thats pretty much a parts car, but complete. the 99 is a stick the 01 is an auto, but the clutch and trans is getting weak in the 99 and want to take the auto out of the 01 an put it in the 99. the questions I have is pretty much who can and were can I get the computer flashed for the software to control an auto? Or I have read posts that the computers can be changed if you have the instrument cluster from the donor, is that true, or do I have to swap out all the dash wiring harness? I have researched the pats system alot but wonder if I can just swap the computer, cluster and ign. locks if that would work, or maybe just use the "remove the chip and stick in dash" trick. thanx in advance for any ideas on this

Also I dont have much money right now due to a low paying job, so I have to use the cheapest way to do this, I cant buy any tuners or anything and my diablosport wont do it i believe.

Its easy to reflash an auto ecu to a manual, but you can generally not go the other way. I would just put a new clutch in. It would be much easier than an ecu and auto swap.

Just buy a new clutch, avoid the Spec stage 1, and buy an OEM Ford TOB.

although I'm a hardcore auto trans guy I have to agree with everone else just put a clutch in it for now due to your funds that being said, if you do swap in the auto don't cut any corners on the electrical/ecm stuff, the 4r70w trans is 100% computer controled & you'll blow it up immidiately if things aren't right. I'd talk to a speed shop in your area that specializes in mustangs & they should be able to make this very easy.

guess ill have to just save and buy a 4r70w controll box then, The main point is that I really dont wanna deal with replacing my clutch and tranny when I have another sitting here (also I really like autos better). I would just swap out all the harness in the dash and do it right, but I live in an apartment and the other mustang is at my girlfriends parents house, so Id have to do everything in a weekend wich swapping trannies in a weekend is easy, but the rest of teardown and swap over would be more like a weeklong project wich isnt feasible at her parents house

you dont need a stand alone control unit for the trans or the whole harness. you need the auto trans extension part of the harness & like I said before you'll need a tuner (not a handheld I mean a shop/dyno/etc may as well find one local that uses diablo since you already have it & will need it to reprogram for your gears) no you can't just run an auto with gears & not correct speedo. you also need to check & see if donor car has a windsor or romeo motor (99-01 1/2 have windsors, stick car will be windsor if no one changed it, parts car could be either one ) reason being is that windsors have 8 bolt cranks & romeos have 6 bolt cranks so you may need a flexplate if motors are diffrent. also will need to swap in cooler lines & radiator (or aftermarket cooler ) ad all this up & like I said a couple hundred on a clutch right now might be a better idea if your low on funds & space/time. but a 4r70w with a shift kit & 3500+ converter is tough to beat especially if you bracket race the car at all.
