Ok, new clutch time
98 Corba...not a single mod.
Needs a new clutch. Might eventually put an exhaust on and get a tune...it will be a street driver. That being said, which clutch is recommended. I hear King Cobra is a nice one but I don't want a Mr. Universe left leg from this thing. suggs? What about a clutch kit? I have a loud whining coming from under the stick shift whichis the main reason for the maintenance (besides the fact that I thik the stock one is still in there). Folks have said it was a TOB but shop thinks its the trans. The sound does not go away when the clutch is in but does get quieter to the point of being inaudible if your ear is not to the shifter. Sound is non-existant in fourth gear Anyway, what should I do flywheel wise. I probably won't get a performance one to keep the mpgs high but should I get a new one or get it resurfaced? Also, while they are under there, should I get the trans rebuilt. The car was bought used and has always had the whine in the shifter. It used to grind going into rev but kinda took are of that with the firewall adjuster. Now it's 'ok' (hard but will go) if I shift into 1st first. Shift is a bit rough but I think its more of a clutch adj than a trans issue given the problems. might be wrong. trans ring job while i'm there to be safe or really not worth it??

The King Cobra is designed to be 35% easier to push down so you shouldn't have to worry about that deadleg thing. I think most all the Mustang trannies are notorious for being hard to get into reverse, I know both of mine have been. But it shouldn't be grinding, that's not good.
Theoretically a lighter flywheel should increase your gas mileage by decreased in strain on your drivetrain and motor. But I haven't really ever noticed much difference in gas mileage between flywheels.

drain the fulid in the trans, if looks ok, then just refill after clutch change. the king cobra is no harder to push than a stocker, i had one in mine a long time ago. i am now running a super king cobra, its feels close to stock and holds just fine. if you arent going to be adding power or abusing the crap out of it, just get a stock replacement. as for the shifter issue, thats just the t45 being normal. my trans is built, and reverse can be picky when it wants.
