your plans with the car determine what size tb you go with.
that info would be helpful

70 if you stay n/a. if you want to throw a s/c on there, 75, if you want to throw a huge f/i setup, 78

with your mods spend the money on a cat back or better yet a tuner. t/b-etc will do nothing at all for you now. but if you must stay 70mm, 78mm way to big n/a (when they first came out 2 guys at our track had to have them 1 lost 2tenths the other lost 3tenths both n/a)

I went with the bbk it was against everything that everyone told me. Most people will say accufab and I'm sure its a great unit but I really like my bbk setup looks good and a nice clean fit for about 200 less. Also like everyone said it depends what your plans are go 75 and up if you f/I and go with 70 if your na.

I agree also with the size, If you aren't planning on doin a lot of stuff then a 78 is not the smartest investment...a 75 is prolly only going to be very good if you decide to S/C or something...i'm pretty sure you'd be pissed to spend more on a 75 and lose performance when you could have just spent less for the right size for what you've got. Jus my two cents.

My vote is to leave it as is. Opening up the size of your intake tract when you don't need it or when there are restrictions further on is pointless. If you make the intake too wide you lose velocity which hurts torque which the 2v already lacks. If you must upgrade anything, your plenum is actually your biggest restriction on the intake side. The stock TB will be fine until you finish the rest of the bolt ons.

As for the TB question. When I got my car I bought a MAC CAI very similar to the one you have and added a 70mm BBK TB. I could very well feel the difference. When I got heads and cams I upgraded to the Accufab 75mm TB and plenum. If you dont plan on doing any headwork, cams or going supercharged your fine just going with the 70mm. You can find the Accufab fairly cheap on craiglist or ebay. But as someone alredy said, if you can buy exhaust first than do it, you wont regret it

BBK claims they dont test flow numbers whicj makes me very worried about a product of theirs which sole purpose is to flow air! There a copy of a email from BBK at the end of this link New BBK throttle body and plenum

Our 302 lb/ft of torque doesn't hit until 4000rpm. Enlarging the intake tract cuts down on velocity thereby making our torque come in at an even higher rpm. The car has plenty of torque in the upper rpms, but you do most of your driving below 4000rpm and even if you nail the gas pedal very rarely do you spend the whole time at 4000 or more. The difference you feel the TB is simply the amount of airflow at partial throttle. When you have more flow area with a 70mm vs the stock 65mm, at 50% throttle there is going to be more air going past than with stock. So it will feel like it's making a lot more power. But at WOT unless you have the mods to support it (ie. 300rwhp) you are only making a couple horsepower more. I'm not saying the throttle body doesn't make any hp. What I'm saying is that for 200 or 300 bucks, you only pick up a couple horsepower over stock unless you have a lot more money invested in the engine. The plenum restricts flow much more than the throttle body. So if you're on a budget, a plenum is a more useful modification than the throttle body simply because it will increase your CFM to allow power up to 5900rpm vs only 5300rpm with the factory equipment. Changing the throttle body won't accomplish that. As a matter of fact changing the stock TB to an aftermarket one while keeping the stock plenum will only pick up about 30cfm. On the other hand switching to an accufab plenum and keeping the factory throttle body puts you at a 100cfm increase over the factory stuff. Save your money, don't buy a TB just buy a plenum if you absolutely must. Otherwise buy the rest of the supporting mods. For roughly what you would spend on a TB/Plenum combo you've almost got yourself a set of LTs which are worth close to 20rwhp. |

I think that the money for the time being could be spent on other things. Im not to sure what your mods are but until you are 100% sure of what you wanna do with the car i wouldnt spend the money on a throttle body/plenum combo. You wouldnt want to buy one and then later find out you need to buy a different one. just my .02 cents

Thast what happened to me although I got my Accufab 75mm TB and plenum combo for 300 shipped from craiglist. As for the torque issue, when racing torque at top comes very handy
