3:90 gear install,:(

my gears are installed, cost me $400 hundred dollors for the install and for them to fix my speedo with a speedcal, cost me $400 for my gears ,bearing kit ,oil and speed cal,so i have spent $800 for everthing, and i feel it was a waste of money,Now i might be speaking to soon cause im breaking in the gears,I havent mashed it yet,but so far i barely even notice a difference in performance and drivabilty,I was under the impression it feels like u gained 50hp and is one of the best mods for a stang,i had 3:27 and going to 3:90 i figured i got a big jump in performance,so im kinda but on the good side I have no gearwhine what so ever,I figured the ricer shop would mess something up for sure, now i do have some Q's
1)how long to break in the gears,(I Heard 500 miles)i want to mash on these gears to try to feel some improvement,
2)how bad is ur speedo when its not fixed after a gear swap, i compared speeds on the odometer with my buddy driving next to me in my jetta, the stang reads a little over 5mph more then the jetta at the same speed,is my speedo off,is this something to worry about? thanks

No break in needed. They are gears, teeth on teeth and will always be that way. First thing I did when I got my 3.73's on was got on it like I stole it just to see the difference. I didn't really notice that huge increase everyone promised when I got my 3.73's, but the usual passengers say they feel it so its all good. I do think 800 was way way too much though, hopefully you like the gears.

800 is pretty high. The cheapest quote I have gotten was 500 for frpp parts and install. Even that to me seems high. My brother is a diesel mech, and has installed tons of ring in pinions that are 10 times the size of ours. I think I'm just going to have him do mine. Beat on that bitch and tell me how you like the 3.90s. That's what I was thinking of going with. Yours motive gear?

my gears were $189,speed cal was $99,master bearing kit was $74,and then my oil was about $40,came to $400,as far as the install i called many shops and the install was from 600-$1000,$400 was the cheapest i could find

Mph difference will be off by a little over 19%. It's not a fixed ratio. So for example if your speedometer reads 30 you are actually going 25. If your speedometer is reading 77 mph, you should be traveling at 65. The faster you are going the more it's going to be off.

As far as being worried...if you don't mind adding fake miles to your car then don't change it...I would advise getting a tuner...only real way to fix it right.

the miles seem to be accurate, the speed cal wont fix these problems,my speedo suppose to be fixed with speedcal,it just reading 5mph higher then my jetta,

man they layed it to you with that price for a gear swap.... Hope you LOVE them for that much!

and I agree w/ oneqwkstang... your best bet would have been a tuner... what would another $150 for a tuner be on top of your $800?

I paid $100 for a set of slightly used gears and had a friend (ASE mechanic) walk me through it step by step to teach me

2 years later, not a single problem or whine

It costs about $800 in this area to have someone else do it with new bearings. Doing it that way drives the price way up.

i take back everthing i said about my gears, these suckers are bad ass, probaly didnt feel like much when i got them cause i had 2 200+pound dudes in my ride and i wasnt mashing it,well i gave it gas on my lunch on the freeway, car pulls super hard,Im at 120mph so quick its not even funny,5th gears pulls hard as hell, scared my chick on the freeway hour ago,its weird cause if i drive normal i cant even notice the gear change, but soon as i mash it huge difference, and i have no gearwhine, good mod, dont no if it was worth $800,but im happy,

I got the rebuild kit and sct/gear deal on americanmuscle.com and paid 200 bucks for everything to be swapped out. Ford dealership wanted 350-400 to do it, and the shop that usually works on my car wanted 300, but I have a friend who does work on drag cars that said 200 bucks and 3 days is all he would need. He ended up having it done the next day and all was good. You should get a sct tuner, they are nice, not a huge difference in my car, but we tried it in a friends mustang and he said he could feel a noticeable difference. I could be wrong, but your year mustang uses a gear for the speed doesn't it? Try finding the proper gear for your gears and that should fix it.
