Building A Vortech Kit

As you all probably know, there's a screaming deal if you build your own Vortech kit.

$1500 96-04GT Supercharger kit "how its done" - MustangForums.com

Now, my question is as follows - and yes, I just copy/pasted this from my post on that thread lol.

---

I know this has been asked a million times, but I'd rather ask and get it right than guess and **** it all up.

I have a bone stock 2001 Bullitt, save for a Bassani catted X-pipe and Borla Stinger catbacks. Now I figured out that instead of getting the Vortech Discharge Assembly for 1996-2004 Ford Mustang GT with 4.6L (Satin), I should get the Vortech Discharge Assembly for 2001 Ford Mustang Bullitt with 4.6L (Satin). The 2001 Bullitt also has a different alternator, and other minor stuff. For example, Kenne Bell says the kit for the GT won't fit on the Bullitt because of the alternator, and other minor stuff - but obviously if I purchased the correct mounting accessories it wouldn't be a problem. Now, with this kit you linked us to, is there ANYTHING else I need to know to get it to fit on my Bullitt?

Also, what about supporting mods? Now I know I need a fuel pump - or a Kenne Bell BAP (what do you guys recommend?) - 42# injectors, spark plugs, and a 90mm MAF along with an IAT sensor. Is there ANYTHING else I might be missing? What gap should the spark plugs be? Another thing, I'm not sure if the Bullitt has a different MAF, so do I need one? Lastly, do you know if my car - '01 Bullitt - has the IAC sensor built in?

Thanks and sorry for the long post!

The same kit from Vortech will fit 96-04 GT and the 01 Bullitt. The difference is the discharge pipes. Trust me I did my own install and it was a pain in the @$$, because Vortech sends everything in the kit to support a 96-04 GT (minus the GT discharge pipes). Since you are piecing yours together you shouldn't have that problem. I will tell you the the clearance between the SC or idler (I can't remember) pulley and the alternator are milimeters away from each other. It is scarey close, but it will fit. I also have a 255lph returnless style fuel pump from Vortech that worked great for me. You already have an IAT sensor. Vortech's setup puts the IAT sensor down by the MAF and filter. I highly suggest getting the 90* elbow that does not have the hole for the IAT sensor. You really need to move the IAT sensor after the blower to measure the correct amount of temperature that is going into the engine. It's going to be hotter coming off the blower then coming in through the filter. Vortech does this so it pulls timing and keeps things really safe. If you want a good tune move it during the install. I drilled a hole through one of the couplers connecting the blower and the discharge pipe. A little thread sealer and I never had a problem. You can also use your stock MAF, but I suggest upgrading to a 90mm MAF. I got my hands on a SCT 2400 MAF.

For supporting mods get a full exhaust setup. Long tubes will net you more power.

You'll also want to upgrade your clutch and either resurface your flywheel or get a new one. I bought the SPEC flywheel. I like SPEC's because you can swap out friction plates on it and never have to replace the flywheel again.

Have those installed before you get the LT in. I had a centerforce DFX clutch and it was awesome. It grabbed low on the pedal and you could get off the line a lot quicker.

Sorry, I meant IAT sensor. Sadly I can't edit posts older than 15 minutes lol.

Thanks for your help Black Bullitt, I really appreciate it .
