problem, sputtering, starving. need help!!

i have been working on my friends 2001 V-6 auto for a couple days now and it wasn't running as of last night until i replaced the alternator, battery and camshaft position sensor. the car runs and drives now but not well. the problem is that when normally accelerating it sputters and has absolutely no power. the car is not showing a check engine light at all but when you hammer on it, it sputters and chokes and then the check engine light starts to flash for a short time then the light turns off when you drive it easy again. just wanted to kno if anyone had any ideas or could possibly tell me whats wrong with this poor thing.

Thanks.

I doubt it's the alternator or battery unless the volt meter is reading low. Im guessing it's something with the CPS or CPS circuit. That would definitely do it, but at the same time, you should always troubleshoot everything

Last I checked when the CEL starts flashing that means the motor is misfiring. Check your plugs and COPs. One of them may have gone bad. Probably a COP, that's what mine turned out to be.

even though the CEL may not be constantly on, the PCM might still be saving a code. Try and pull the code, and see if anything shows up.

One other thing...the crank position sensor is in circuit with the cam position sensor (they work hand in hand).

Personally i'd lean more towards the sensor vs. the COP since the car is stalling out...the car will run on 5 out of 6 cylinders, it'll run rough, but it will still run. Now if you have multiple COP's bad, then yeah it will cause that problem. If the crank position sensor is bad, it will definatly cause your problems. Then again, i'm not sure if the v-6 uses a crank position sensor.

Coil over plug.

You probably should be asking in the v-6 section...not sure if the 01 v-6 used COPs or still used a distributor pack.

sixxers don't have COPs.

check plugs, wires, and coil packs. If that isn't it go to another section of the motor. The fact it isn't throwing a code is weird. So I would just start with those.
