MAC cat-back LEAK at the Tips

Any of you MAC guys out there experience this?

My MAC cat back on the driver side has a lite rattle sound at idle and low RPM (under 2000)
I made sure all bolts were tight. So I take it to the local muffler shop and they say it sounds like a leak. They put my car up on the rack and say it is leaking where the tips connect to the tail pipes. He points to black exhuast scorching on the pipes.
So back home I loosen the clamp and push the tip about 2 inches further over tail pipes and titghten down the clamp. But still no fix.

Any of you guys have this happen or know how to fix it?
Thanx!

having it welded will take care of the problem!

Yes it does use band clamps.
So a weld does the trick?
Anyone else have to get their tips welded?

Hmm, I dont have tips on mine. The pipes come straight out of the muffler.....one piece. You could pull them off and put some high temp rtv around the pipe, then slide the tip back over it. Clean it up so it isnt visible and tighten the clamps down good. That should work. Other than that, get them welded.

My tips are welded on. And i dont think thats whats rattling.... would have to be really loose! And i also kinda doubt that an exhaust tip at the very end would make much noise. My catback was rattling on the frame at one point, can check that. Was annoying as hell.

I guess it doesnt have to be the tips. Did you check them to see if they are loose?

Try this, jack your car up and slide under it. Look at the mufflers and their posistioning in the well. My catback actually touched the side of the well, and it would rattle only at certain points, like in a turn or something. I couldnt figure it out till I saw it. I adjusted them slightly and fixed it. This could be the cause. It didnt occur to me till Ryans post.

Yeah I did make sure everything was tight and had clearance.
When I heard this "rattle" noise (it happens at idle too) I put my car back on the rack and double checked everything.

Thats when I took it to the muffler shop. There they pointed out that the exhuast leaks where the tips slide onto the tailpipes. There is even black scorch marks on the tail pipes from the leak. They said that is wehre my "rattle" noise was coming from.

Basically I am curious if I was the ONLY one that had ever experienced this.
