ANY Info Appreciated HELP

After replacing an alternator yesterday, ( the one i had on it before went out after less than 6000 miles) this morning i get up to go to school and I had like, NO GAS, so, i go in the garage and take one of the gas cans and put about a half a gallon in it, just to get me to the gas station, when i get to the gas station and the car idles, i hear a knock, so i was like OH SHIT, please tell me that gas wasnt mixed, ( later to find out it wasnt)
so i put a couple gallons of gas in, head to school, cars runnin like shit, and when im almost there it starts runnin a tad bit better, i cranked it up a few hours later durin school and it ran ok, after school to head home its runnin like shit again, i go put anothr gallon of gas in thinkn i can mix it up a lil bit and jst try to run thru the tank..

i get home tell my dad and he says no big deal, there was probably water n the gas can because it was sitting outside the garage, gas and water... he told me to get rubbing alcohol and pour a tad bit into my tank and let that dry up the water... i havent cranked it back up since i put the alcohol in,,,

any suggestions or comments?

I've heard of doing that as well.

Water in gas will make it do that. It's a common thing when using those gas cans for things like lawnmowers and weedeaters for water to seep into there.

Just go out there and crank it up and let it run itself. If all eslse fails, just siphon your gas tank and fill it back up with known gasoline. The worst you probably could've done is mess with a spark plug wich is a $1.25 fix and 5 minutes of your time...

Well use this as a comparison.

My step mom has this stuff she uses sometimes called Swimmer's Ear. It's a bottle of rubbing alcohol (like 90% or something along those lines) and you use it to evaporate all the water in your ear. it works, but it burns bad...

The alcohol will evaporate the water; I know that. It's just I'm not 100% sure how it'll make your car run...

put more fuel in it, and buy a bottle of heet. it is a water remover and it should take care of the problem. i personally would change the fuel filter as well.

Yeah, Just drove the car after letting it sit for about an hour with the rubbing alcohol in it, and at first when I cranked it up, the idle was a little weird, and when i drove off, it was fine for about a block or two and then it went to the knocking, or atleast what i think is knocking, its like a constant jerk, and the car was runnin like crap,

my dad just said to drive thru the rest of the tank which is about an 1/7th of a tank

I cranked the car and let it idle for about 10-15 minutes and when i drove it, it ran decent for a minute or two, ( just driving it around the neighborhood) and then it went back to the shitty stage.. i guess the first thing i gotta do is get all that crappy gas out, then if its till runnin bad i'l check the plugs, and hopefully thats worst case senario

ok, well after a little bit of rubbing alcohol and 3gallons of pump gas in the car its still runnin like shit, jerkin and chuggin, i think i misinterpreted the "knock" when it was the jerk from the spark plugs not firing all the fuel since some of it is water, alcohol, and whatever was in that gas can..
i think what im gunna do next is drain the tank, clean or buy a new fuel filter, check plugs and cops, and is there a way to clear all gas completely out of the car?
