Due to the design the cold air is supposed to be more effiecient due to the filter being mounted in the passenger side fender farther from the engine. HP differences arnt much, only about 2 or 3 I would guess. The short ram mounts inside the engine compartment, and sucks air that is around the motor which is hotter.

Only time ram air is, ram air. Is with the light taken out (like at the track) Thats why sometimes you see mustangs with the right side light taken out.

cai is generally better like reasons said. (unless at the track with light taken out).

I feel a drop in K&N Filter is about as good as any CAI.

The OEM intake is a CAI, as stated in the KB link, and a pretty good one at that.

Beyond this, I have never seen any unbiased back-to-back controlled dyno tests (as in NOT performed by a "CAI" vendor or a magazine having full-page glossy ads for a vendor's CAI) showing ANY performance gain for any aftermarket intake.

We dynoed my '03 with the OEM intake and a Purolator filter, and with no filter. Guess what?

There was no discernable difference, none, zilch, zip, nada...

wow after reading this, i wished i had an RAI.

but the factory air box in the 05+ is mounted in the engine compartment, not the fender.

+1,000,000 i had a k&n drop in with silencer removed and my dumb ass went and spent 230 bucks for a jlt cai and i felt nothing. and when i say nothing i mean zip, zilch, nada, nothing. it actually sounded better with the k&n and silencer removed than it did with the cai. a nice big shiney cai is nothing more than asthetics for the engine bay.
