HELP! SOHC 6 bolt crank/ cobra 8 bolt crank interchangability?
I have aquired a project '02 4.6 SOHC mustang that has the engine completely apart in various boxes and such. After getting the block and everything mostly together i went to mount the flywheel and suprise suprise the flywheel is 6 bolt and the crank is 8 bolt. After some research i found out that whoever had this vehicle before was planning on putting in a cobra crank. Everything else on this engine is bone stock.
My question(s): can i get away with just buying a new cobra flywheel? will the balence be all messed up? will i have to get a new clutch assembly as well? Or do i have to go buy a new origional 6 bolt crank? Thanks, -Brian |

the cobra flywheel is an 11in set up. you can get an 8 bolt gt flywheel that is set up for a 10.5. just look up for a 99-00 gt, widnsor motor (vin x), and there ya go. these motors are supposed to be internally balanced, so the flywheels shoulnt effect anything. measure the clutch kit you have and purchase for it. or buy a flywheel/clutch kit together for the same vehicle.
