mach 460 Q

all i want to do is install a cd deck,(keep everthing the same with the mach 460 system)and install my 10'' sub in the trunk with a 500 watt amp going only to the sub,

Bestbuy told my this is impossble,i have to get a $150 wire harness,i have 8 amps and a bunch of bs,someone enlighten me,this seems like a easy job to me,

1)install a cd deck
2)keep everthing the same with the 460 system
3)add a 500 watt amp only going to a 10''sub in the back

sounds simple so whats the deal

I went thro a BIG headache. Went to diff best buys till one tech was firmiliar with Mustangs/460 units. It sounds ok..i probly would have just left it stock but i turned the sub up and played with the radio till it sounded good.

Check this out Mustangworld Subwoofer install to Mach460

I have a sony explode head unit and a Infinty self powerd sub dont ask me how the guy actually did the install i can take pictures of it in there if that will help you.

Do you already have all the components? Does the headunit have a subwoofer out?

The stereo will install easily. All you need is a wiring harness.

If you have a headunit with subwoofer outputs it is a piece of cake. If not, you can tap into the rear speakers.

best buy sells 2 harnesses, one for the stock system, one for the upgraded one, both the same price, i had a mach 460 in my 94mustang and they just have to give you the right harness or the stock amps wont come on

Ya it seems as though the harness is a necessity. I had a friend who tried to install a system with his car. He ending up various problems from no dome light, no dash lights, ect. In the end he ended up buying the silly harness anyway and now it works pretty good.

i took mine to circuit city and they charged me like 250 bucks to install a cd player b/c they had to bypass amps and do a bunch of other crap. however i do have the mach 1000 so maybe its different. i wish i couldve done this myself but electronics is not my strongest subject.

didn't read all the posts, but from what i understand all you need is a aftermarket headunit, a new wiring harness that connects to your new headunit and converts the wires to your stock wiring harness. and then your subs will plug right in. its not no 150.00. when you buy the aftermarket headunit they will tell you what harness you need etc.

I did a line out converter so i was able to keep my stock headunit. I had circuit city install it for me for 30.00. they did a good job.
