Midpipes

My first question.. if I purchase a midpipe that is full length.. as in made for stock manifolds or shorty headers and I purchase long tube headers, would it be possible to have a shop fab up a connection by shortening the midpipe that would function with no impedance to the flow? I believe I read of a person or two on here who said that they had this done.

secondly, what is it that makes x pipe (a) sound different from x pipe (b).. i mean you can listen to certain clips on youtube and usually hear a different sound depending on brand such as bassani, upr, magnaflow, etc..

bends, angles, thinkness of material, diameter, the way the x is designed make up the sound. im sure a shop can do it but do u wanna pay for it is the question?

im sorry if that came off arrogant or short. unless u kno guys that do that kinda work and will give u a deal, its best to buy it all at once cause it only takes 1 install time instead of many. i regret not waiting on tuner b4 gears went in and several others on here will tell u get it all and install at once

Agree. But I went ahead and did the mid pipe anyways, i could've wiated. Ive had the car over a year so i guess getting that done wasnt bad and you can always sell the mid pipe once you get LTs. You wont get your money back but atleast youll get something for it.

I had the same question a couple of days ago, and I found this x pipe at AM check it out. It was made with extensions on it that can be removed by simply unbolting them in order to fit long tubes.

Mustang SLP X-Pipe at AmericanMuscle.com
I'm actually about to order one of these, hope this helps!

oh yea and I forgot to mention that the cats can be taken off just as easily as well for an off road x pipe, and then when inspection time comes around just slide em back on!

1st of all, why are they so expensive? and secondly, would it be too hard for a mechanic to modify them to fit different headers?

Normal with lts its better to use the same brand mid pipe as your lts. they are made to fit together. sometimes when you mix and match they wont work. the only reason why they work for shorty headers is becuase they all have to meat the stock location of the manifolds.

I wouldnt bother having a welder try to make them work, just to much work and i would think it would look retarded having welds everywhere when you can just buy the stuff that fits and have it fit nice and look clean also. Just get some Mac coated LT's. Heard a lot of good about them.
