99 Mustang GT engine upgrade

I have a 99 Mustang GT conv. and am looking to increase my horsepower to 450 at the wheel. What is my best way to do that for the least amount of money? I've been debating on a procharger supercharger or even picking up a used 5.0 and having it rebuilt.

i would go with the procharger and full exhaust. 1 5/8in headers and a 2 1/2in X-pipe with flowmasters, that should put you where you wanna be.
but the 5.0 isn't a bad idea either with a 250 shot and you should be in the at 450 no prob.

but remember you gotta pay to play.

For the procharger you will spend more $, If you are looking to do this with a smaller bank I would go with Vortech

Procharger... go with a P-1SC with a 10 lb pulley since you're stock (I'm assuming).

go procharger or kenne bell. unless you go na then you would have to get some stage 2 or 3 heads, cams, forge the internals and get better pistons, good tune, full bolt ons and so on. i don't even know if that will get you to 450. that would maybe bring you to 400

With that kind of HP on a vert, I'd also get a roll bar and maybe even brake upgrades.......just my $0.02

all the procharger kits i've looked at come intercooled. for the vortech kits, you have to pay extra for the intercooler. and from what i've seen, the procharger is a better blower. that's why the prochargers are usually more $$

Look at my setup, I'm basically at that and I'm only pushing 315 hp. FI is the way to go if you want numbers 400+.

if you have all that then you need to get a tune. Because with full bolt on, all forged internals, timing, and cams, you should be over 300 at the rw. then you add some good flowing heads and up the compression you should be at about 350-375. then with the supercharger on top of that you could easily reach 600.

i would build the motor first then go with a s/c cuz i know once i got a s/c and felt the pwr,i wanted more.
now i gotta go back and build the motor to handle the the extra pwr and if you're not doing the work yourself that extra labor can add up.

my advice from my past experience is build it the fastest you ever think it will go and can afford that way you will save yourself time and/or money.

Nope...

With great flowing heads, full bolt-ons, cams, and all that jazz without forced induction 325rwhp is about the max...Well and to still have driveability...To hit 400 you need spray of forced induction...

i originally had a 70mm TB and 42# injectors @ 10lbs of boost and now i'm going up to 20+lbs and now i gotta deal with selling all my other parts and get a 75mm TB and 60lb injectors.

so plan ahead.

ChrisJ is right, N/A will never hit 400rwhp unless you want to run 14.1 compression!!!!!

.

Yup, I'm running 315 rwhp right now, but I can probably get 325 rwhp with a good tune. The only reason I don't have the extra 10 hp is last time I had it in for a tune it had been tuned for an hour already @ $200 an hour, and I didn't feel like spending another $100 or so for the extra 10 hp at the time.
