heads and cams
so here goes i have done my fair share of research on heads and cams. I wana have a dd with some power looking to stay n/a (unless i win lots if money). I have seen that one can gain anywhere from 30 to 45 whp with heads and cams. one of my good friends tells me that a lt1 full boltons and hci could reach 400whp. so y do mustangs gain what seems to be so little with hci? What is the best combo for a n/a?

they dont make as much power as the lt's because of compression, engine size and flow.
my sig has my mods and numbers. you can almost get a full s/c kit for the price of heads/cams/install/tuning

Id say best combo depends on how much you want to spend, what you want to do in the future, and weather youre looking for low end/top end power, etc, and ultimately buying what you feel is best for you not what everyone else says to get.

Plus with lt1's and other small block chevys you can buy after market heads. All we can do is port and polish the stockers.

Dont forget to add in cost of tools (if you dont have them already), head gaskets, head bolts, intake manifold gaskets, crank & cam bolts and any other gaskets you may want to change. While youre at it for the little extra cost you might as well do the front cover and valve cover gaskets. Just something id throw out there so you can figure how much you have/want to spend on actual parts. As for you goals maybe I read over them.

Just my opinion..For a start id look at some hitech or crower cams, heads youre best bet as far as saving money would probably be having your current ones p&p, and for a tune a sct x3 with custom tune from somewhere like vmptuning, bamachips, etc. Once I got a price from there id see where I could squeeze in the remaining money for better parts.

2500 will get you a sc kit and a tune... if you only care to make as much as your internals are good for that would be the best thing... as for me... im doin all the small stuff first then gonna do the big whammy and go from runnin mid high 11s to mid high 9s... so.... there ya go... you can get an s-trim kit for about 1800 off of corral.net and a dyno tune for 700

Have you thought of trying to save some money and do the gears yourself? If youre willing to do the cams and heads you should be more than capable of doing the gears. They arent that complicated to do it just takes a little time, patience & abillity to read a dial indicator & dial caliper.

You better do a real big whammy like a novi 2000 or YSI-trim if you want nines, then you'll need an 8 rib set, over drive crank pulley ect. The pulleys alone can cost almost 900. Don't forget the race gas at $6 a gallon. There's a huge difference going from high 13's to 11's compared to going from 11's to 9's
