So i have been lurking here for a while and now im starting a build

First and foremost i would like to say thanks (sarcasticly) for leading me to this. Well i couldnt help it since i knew i wanted boost and since my motor blew i started searching for something that can handle 4-500 hp. What i ended up with was this

800 mmr shortblock 03/04 cobra block with arp head studs fel pro head gaskets freshly ported stage 1 99/01 cobra dohc cobra cams the motor is built for boost and good for 800 hp, which i have no intentions of using it all.

I was luck enough to snag this on the lay away plan so dont expect updates any time soon but i have already pulled my motor and tranny and slowy piecing everything together

In the mean time i will post some pics of the motor and my car as it sits now if anyone has suggestions put them out there. Im not sure whether to go turbo or supercharger but i know i want 15-20 pounds of boost and i would like to keep it a daily driver. Does anyone know of anygood turbo kits? Sorry if i sound like a newb. truth is I am so i need as much help as i can get

just curious but what would make you think a 400-500hp, 15-20psi boosted car would make a good daily driver?

I'm not saying it's good or bad, I just wonder sometimes when hp# are thrown around on forums if people are thinking what they are in for. can you d/d a 400-500 hp car yes, will it be fun, mabie. reliable, doubtful. (unless your spraying most of it) is it worth risking a $15,000 + invertment in the drive train of a car you drive to work ( knowing that a drunk or preoccupied driver could hit it & insurance companies dont care about your kb,vortech, etc.) just my opinion for a new guy.

thanks for the heads up but i doubt i will use it as often as it came out. I have another car so really this will be more for fun and an excuse to get rid of my bike

I think the with a turbo it may be a little less manigable but if I build it right i dont see it being unfeasable. There are a lot of 500 hp cars that can be used for DD its just the matter of setting everything up properly...and thats what i have you guys for

With a 4v and cams, 15 psi will put you at 500+ hehe. Im at 14 psi on a 2v no heads with twin screw and at about 270. (was 253 pre header install).

It will be drivable depending on what tires you get... i would recommend not getting AWESOME dry tires that will put you in the ditch in the rain... Get somewhere in between.

If money isn't an issue get twin turbos. If you actually stay out of the throttle you will gain gas mileage. Will have most power gain with least stress too (no parasitic loss). With 15 psi any way you go will put you in your seat.

I kinda agree on that subject. A lot of people reach for high power goals like 500 or 600hp when they haven't even licked 300...or 400. I make 320 rwhp and when i first had it modified it was quite a handful for me considering i had never had a car with so much power. I couldnt even handle first and second gear as the extra torque combined with 4.10s made it easy to spin the wheels without trying.

I've driven a 590 rwhp whipple cobra and it was a "REAL" handful considering what im used to. It was fast to me since i had never driven anything with that much power, but i couldnt see myself driving something like that to work everyday. The tires were 315s but they were still extremely easy to spin in first and second. Hell first and second were almost useless. Just my $.02..

Just be careful mixing daily driver with high hp numbers. You may be in for a disappointment. Dont get me wrong though, if done right, you could make a 500-600hp car very streetable, but it takes a little more planning and often more money. And im asuming you wont be reporting the mods to your insurance, as most people dont, so like casper said, any kind of accident will bring forth some issues and possibly put you at a loss..

I think you guys have excellent points but i see it like this. One i have another car that two i have driven sport bikes for quite some time now which i think is much more to handle. Im pretty much at the point in my life where if i dont do this now im gonna have to wait till im in my 50s and i dont want to wait that long. While I have no intetions of really driving this car every single day i want it to be as reliable and streetable as a DD. Again I can see what you guys are saying and to have a catastophic accident happen would be a complete loss of hard earned money but if im gonna do it i want to do it all the way and one time. Im really just looking for advice as what i should get as far as supercharger or turbo and i wanted to share the news since i was very excited. To say the least I am a pretty responsible driver and look forward to romping most cars.

Oh and to add with all these new cars coming out between the camaro ss and the new m3 its gonna take a lot to keep up with these guys 260 horse power 8 cylinders are a thing of the past

look at the single 62mm hellion turbo kit! i think it puts you at 430whp and if you stay outta boost you get like 26mpg. insane i know. im looking into this myself! also it comes with just about everything you need including manifolds, tubular k-member and a arms. its a super kit and they have a good rep. good luck and keep us posted.
