What are the best brakes to upgrade to?
I just got a Kenne Bell 2.1L literally like three days ago and I already have realized that I'm going to have to do a brake upgrade. Who makes the best pads, rotors, and etc.? I've been looking at the Hawk HPS Brake Pads (1999-2004 Mustang GT and V6 Hawk High Performance Street Front Brake Pads at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!) and Powerslot Rotors (1994-2004 Mustang GT/V6 Front Powerslot Rotors at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping!) for a 99-04 GT from AmericanMuscle. Any good?
Any suggestions would be highly appreciated

Hawks are good, well from what I hear at least, although my friend who owns a '93 RX-7 says they're overrated. My other friend who owns and tracks a supercharged '01 Bullitt uses them.

if your F/I and still on factory brakes, its time for an upgrade. affordable brakes are the Mach 1's/Cobra's. i have them on mine with the BAER 13'' rear kit also and i love it

i dont think some hawlks pads and sloted rotors are going to do what you need. You might look into a cobra set up or one from an aftermarket company like Bear, SSBC, Brembo, FRPP, AP racing, etc.
94-04 BREMBO GT BRAKE KIT, 4.6L FRONT, BLACK, 4 PISTON, 1 PIECE ROTOR, DRILLED MUSTANG 94-04 AP RACING BRAKE KIT- FRONT, BLACK CALIPERS, 1 PIECE 13" CROSS DRILLED/SLOTTED ROTORS MUSTANG |

i went with the bear slotted and drilled 13inch rotors front and back and cobra callipers and russle steel braded brake lines, they work verry well no cracking ,warping but they are not the best wet weather brakes iv had them for over a year and i have no complaints, they sop the car on a dime

I put the brembo cobra R brakes on after my blower and love them. I warped the shit out of the stock rotors the first week i had the blower. I've had the brembos for a few years now and love them. No fade, no warping, and great stopping power. they are giant beasts and i had to run wheel spacers to clear the calipers until i changed wheels. They only fit a few types of wheels because the calipers stick out about 4" past the rotors.

Expensive brakes don't mean shit unless you change the fluid. If you are still using DOT3 brake fluid, you may as well be using drum brakes, because they're about as effective. Completely flushing out the old fluid and replacing it with fluid with ahigher boiling point makes a big difference. Once the stock fluid gets hot, it starts to boil, which causes brake fade and eventually you get nothing as it continues to get hotter. You've seen rotors glow red right?
This is what I use : https://www.ogracing.com/catalog/2-C...00-BRAKE-FLUID One bottle will be enough, but I always buy them two at a time. I use the 550 since my car is still (rarely) street driven. And yeah...the Baer brakes are sweet, Hawk pads are good, but if you're going to get slotted and drilled rotors, don't get the cheap ones. They're the same rotors you can get an an auto parts chain, only they've been drilled and slotted by someone no one has heard of. I use EBC pads, and I have a set of Wilwood rotors and calipers ready for next season. |

As fairlane mentioned, Wilwood brakes FTW! I have a set of SL6's in front and SL4's in back. You have to be careful when you hit the brakes or you'll get launched through the windshield! LOL!
He's also rignt about changing out your brake fluid. It will do WONDERS! John
