How do I get more Traction?

So i sc'd my car about a week ago and it's taken me about that long to figure out that i'm goin to need more traction if plan on not getting my ass kicked from a dig and/or a 1st gear roll.

I've got 18x10" bullitts with Nitto 555s on the rear (285/35s) & they're not doin me a lot of good lol.

I'm not looking to get the equivalent of an AWD takeoff , but I would like to have at least some grip in first gear.

What can/should i do to get there?

Wider rear tires and a stickier tire too (555Rs at least, Mickeys if you wanna get serious).

Get upper and lower control arms. Subframe connectors wouldnt hurt either. And aftermarket rear sway bar or swarr bar. Would make noticeable difference.

But your not going to have traction in first unless you have a slick on at the track. Thats part of the joys of the KB. And learning how to drive it! hehe

UCAs are for suckers who don't understand just how bad the stock rear suspension is.

There's two ways to go about this: the cheap way, and the right way. You can guess which one actually works.

The right way involves going to a torque-arm rear suspension. You're talking probably $1500 in parts, plus whatever labor you can't do yourself. If you're a competent welder/fabricator, you can pick up

, which has plans/schematics for everything you would need to make. Going that way you could probably do it for under $100.

there is nothing wrong with replacing the parts that are on the car now. the stock set up isnt the greatest, but does just fine for most people that want a fun street car.

control arms, shocks, and tires are my reccomendations.

A torque arm, panhard bar, upper control arm, and lower control arm.

Or:

A watts link, upper control arm, and lower control arm.

I recommend the watts link setup.

FAYS2 Suspension Fox Body Watts Link

From what I know, with a watts link you have to either get a side-exit exhaust, or dump your exhaust, but with FAYS2 watts link setup, you don't have to.

I'm not 100% suspension savvy, so if somebody more knowledgeable than I with suspension can chime in and correct me if and where I'm wrong, please do .

ah man now you've gone and told everyone the secret to racing the 4.6 atleast they don't know about the timing change for that mod

On topic...looking at your mod list, you havent done any suspension mods...heck just a better set of springs with shocks and struts will be better than where your at right now....also if ya use the search you'll see all sorts of suspension setups out there. Easy free traction mod is removing front sway bar at the track.

I would at least go to a 315's since you 10" wide rims.

definitly suspension. It will be the best bang for the buck to hook up in your situation. also I wouldn't go with the M/T drag radials if you drive it everyday, they hook awesome but suck in the rain.

Everything mentioned, and weight transfer. Move the battery to the trunk. Put some drag shocks on the front and remove the front stabilizer bar to aid in weight transfer.

For most people, the New Upper and Lower control arms are plenty. You are just bandaging a problem rather than fixing it. But it costs more to fix it, and you can still hook just fine with new Upper and Lower Control arms. I would recommend before anything else though, get Subframe connectors. They add chassis rigidity that promotes, safety, solid body weight transfer for better launching and turning as well as making the car body stay in allignment long term.
