Gears are a good mod. They will make your car a lot quicker but if you have an auto be aware that gas milage will go down. If you have a manual it wont go down, in fact depending on your driving it could go up. Is this true???

There have been about 1000 threads about people talking about gears post install. In fact in this sticky there are people with manuals who talk about increased gas milage. The increase isnt a lot in most cases but is noticeable. The reasoning i believe is because with higher gears your engine doesnt have to work as hard to accelerate.. or something along that line. Plus with a manual, since GT's are 5 spd, with 4.10's when driving at highway speeds in 5th gear, the higher gear wont raise the rpms by much (if at all) like it does with an auto.

The draw back for automatics is at highway speeds. Your car with 4.10s on an auto will run at about 3000 rpms around 65mph instead of 2000 which will decrease highway milage. Now ive heard few people claim to get better milage with autos in city. in theory i believe you should get better city milage since as is true for manuals, your engine doesnt work as hard to accelerate. At city speeds you will be running low rpms because you arent out of gears, meaning the auto drawback you see at highway speeds doesnt apply here. My guess as to why certain auto's see worse city milage is because of the way people drive the car. If you are accelerating quickly and constantly on the gas, obviously you will see worse milage. Despite not having to work as hard to accelerate under normal driving conditions, racing off the line or pushing the car to 4 or 5k will decrease mpg's.

Im not sure if you were asking about whether it was true for an auto or a manual, but that is all true as far as i know. Whether or not you see the same gains or losses is unknown. Every car responds differently to mods. More than likely though, you will get the same results as most cars with your same tranny.
