lol

I have 373's and went 12.7 with a 1.7 60' at 115 NA. I have nitrous but am still breaking in my new mmr1100. I will be adding a d1sc after my break in, about a month, do you think stick with the 373 or maybe go 410's

Any difference between:

http://www.americanmuscle.com/fopege4ra.html

and

http://www.americanmuscle.com/mopepl4ge.html

Besides brand and price?? This is my next mod, but 159.99 sounds better to me then 239.99, unless I am getting crappy gears for 159.99.

The Motives are known to whine! Go with the FRPP for gears!

Let a professional install! Otherwise morethan likely it will whine no matter what type of gears you get. Motives have just been known to whine if the install isnt perfect! Some installs will some wont!

I've got about 1500 miles on my 3.73s now and find that I am getting 0.5 to 1.0 MPG less than with the stock 3.27 gears in my normal daily drive (50 miles each way, 15 miles at 45 to 70, 33 at 75-85, and the last 2 at 45-60; with only 10 traffic lights). 2500 rpm @ 80 mph.

I'm pleased with the change, for the amount of driving I do (sometimes 400-500/day on interstates) I think the engine speed increase of 4.10s (2750 @ 80) would wear thin after a while...

As long as you do not change the outside diameter of the tires to something larger than stock (25.7") the diameter and width of the wheel have nothing to do with it (other than the added weight which requires more power to accelerate).

As an update, I find that if I consistently cruise above 80 (85-90) the 3.73s can easily eat up another 2.0 MPG more than the OEM gears. I figure that overall, at current gas prices, the 3.73s are going to cost me about $550 more per year (I drive 45k or so per year).

Tires sizes are specified as the tread width/aspect ratio-wheel diameter--the aspect ratio is the ratio of the sidewall height to the tread width, specified as a percentage...

So, a 245/45-17 has a tread that's 245 mm wide, an aspect ratio of 45, and is meant for a 17" wheel.

245 * .45 = 110.25 mm, so we know the sidewall is 110.25 mm high, add the sidewal height * 2 to the wheel diameter and we find that this tire is 110.25 * 2 + 17 * 25.4 or 652.3 mm, or 25.68" which is pretty close to the 25.7" most manufacturers state.

Now lets do a 275/40-17, 275 * .4 = 110 mm, 110 * 2 + 17 * 25.4 = 651.8 mm = 25.66" (again pretty close to 25.7").

OK, now let's do the math for a 225/45-17; 225 * .45 = 101.25 mm, so a 225/45-17 tire is going to have an outside diameter of (101.25 * 2 + 17 * 25.4) = 634.3 mm = 24.97" (25" is the quoted spec).

That's how you change tire diameters--buy tires of a different diameter...
