Car wont start! loud clicking only!

I got in my car to start it today and all it would do is click loud and repetatively. It doesnt even try to turn over.Does that mean my starter is screwed?

Look at the voltage gauge. Or turn on your lights and check how dim they are. If you turn lights on and gauge moves, battery is low! If gauge isnt at or above half its low.

Has it been sitting for awhile? Has it had any issues starting lately? (long cranking or having to rev it while cranking). When it gets colder, worn and abused batteries crap out.

In that case, check grounds. And are the terminals corroded at all? and as said earlier try hitting the starter with a rubber mallet. Might of got stuck. And make sure connections are good to it.

just sounds like his bendix in the starter aint kicking in,it may help if he beats on the stater with a bar or something, then it may kick in.

Take it to Auto Zone to have the battery checked to be sure.

ya get a new batt for sure. like the guy said the bendix wasn't pushing all the way out. The magnetic field on the starter seloind* may have a weak magnetic field and the magnetic field around it pulls the bendix out to the flywheel. if not enough juice in the battery the clicking is the bendix going out a little and then back b/c the magnetic field it's strong enough to push all the way out and that in turn won't spin the flywheel near fast enough to start your engine. so try getting a new battery.

I'd get the battery checked first. Usually if the bendix is shot, the motor will still spin, it just won't engage the flywheel. The continuous clicking usually means no juice. Have the battery checked, and do like Ryan said, check the starter cable to make sure its not rubbing on anything like the long tubes or something.

Do you get a little spark when you disconnect the neg cable? If so, then you have a short or closed circuit somewhere which is draining it.
