Wheel spacers.

This isn't for me exactly, this is for my friend with a 300zx that bought my stock mustang wheels. He's already beating me by about 3 car lengths, I guess he finally wanted a wider tire with better rubber. Anyway, the car makes a little over 300hp with tq not too far behind. The wheels fit on the back just fine, but up front they are too wide. The question is can he use washers up front instead of buying wheel spacers? Does that put safety in question? He wants to space the back, too so the front isn't farther out. So do washers work or is that a bad idea for something that's not a minivan?

Yes, washers are a bad idea

The correct spacers will distribute the torque and stress of road condtions all over the face of hub via the mating surface of the wheels, and washers would not.

I run 1/2" spacers on the back of my wheels to allow the use of 11" wheels as well as bring the wheel to the inside edge of fender (see sig) It will also help with handling, but can not tell you how much. I am sure it is pretty minimal, but I did it for fuction/looks anyway. Any advantage in the twisties, is happily taken

I have installed replacement upgraded longer/stronger lug-bolts due to this mod and have a full 1" of thread left for lug-nuts. I have no concerns about safety of my ride.

HTH.

he's trying to find the cheap way out and I keep telling him that safety can't be compromised like that. I needed some people to back me up.
