Gas Pedal Tension


Discussing Gas Pedal Tension in the 99-04 Forum. I asked this once before and got a response I didn't understand at all. ...

Gas Pedal Tension

I asked this once before and got a response I didn't understand at all. So I'm asking again hoping someone can please explain...

Basically, it's simple <> My gas pedal feels too loose. I push down on it and it's just so flimsy. I want it to be firm and tight. Anyway I can do this?

its the spring that connects the throttle cable to the throttle body. just get a smaller one. It has two hooks on it. Its the throttle return spring.

Alright so throttle return spring. Gotcha, AutoZone here I come. But... how do I install it? Passanger side under the thing right? No? I'm clueless, maybe.

lol both ends of the spring will have a little loop on it and you'll see where they connect to.. the smaller (shorter) the spring is the tighter it will be obviously, the tighter the spring, the harder it will be to open the throttle and the more tension you will have on your pedal.

nevered looked into it personally but i'd assume they'd have what you need. if not i'm sure they could recommend someone who does

ther's a mod i found on mustangworld, i think for that. it involves putting a nylon spacer on the gas pedal behind the end of the throttle cable. i used an old plastic insert that came with my shift knob and cut it down with a dremel tool. i'll see if i can find the link and i'll post it.

this worked great and it was free. it took all the slack out of the pedal. it'll take a little getting used to, but once you do, you'll love the difference.
