belt breaking
i open the hood yesterday and found thin long shards of the belt. i look at the belt and it is missing from the back end. the only thing i think that caused it was the ac, when i turn the ac on the car dies (compressor going bad). did this cause the belt to mulch up? how can i put in a new belt with the SC?

only if the A/C compressor clutch is going bad would you have a belt issue, if I had to take a guess at it, I'd say a bad belt tensioner, bad idler pulleys or both.....how old was the belt and how did it fit? how many miles on the car and have any of the belt idlers or belt tensioner ever been replaced?

well i got the belt when the SC got put in back in august.
car has 70k. never replaces tensioner. im reading around and it looks like the SC has to come off to install the belt. is it alright to drive like that if the belt is 90% alright?

drive it only if you need to if the belt is like that, get another one on it asap. a locked/about to lock compressore will do that.

ok.
wont drive ill take off the SC tonight put belt in tormorrow. ive never taken out the head unit. anything i got to look out for? can i disconect the oil lines?

Make sure the s/c is aligned properly too, as that will shread a belt fast.

well a shop put in SC in so i trust them, and its been running fine for months until the other day when i turned on the ac the car died and it has been doing it since. i guess one of those times i tried the ac, the belt shredded. it lost one rib

I recommend you purchase TWO belts when you get your compressor fixed/replaced.
Keep one in the trunk, so if a belt breaks somewhere out on the road, you will be able to get your ride going easy with no tow truck/flatbed needed ![]() Jazzer |
