Turbo build question

How hard do some of you experienced guys think that it would be to assemble and install my own turbo system. I don't mean buy a kit and install it, I mean actually get the parts together and build a turbo set-up.
I have loads of fabrication experience and I have built tons of N/A motors(even a few 400-600 horse na motors), but I've never messed with any forced induction. I know I could fabricate all of the parts and pieces to actually get everything in place, and then get someone to tune the system for me. What I really need is somewhere to get the specific info. on how most people set their turbos up. I've been doing alot of reading, but everything I have found is very general info.
Any help getting me pointed in the right direction for quality info. would be appreciated.

It's a tricky thing, you have to figure out oiling routing, how much heat youre going to put into the other components near the turbo, ect.
Haveing said that a guy on the southside of Indy took stock manifolds and switched sides reworked an old Y Pipe from a truck and dropped a turbo
in a Fox Body. It can be done. Check with the manufacturers for boost control specs exct.

Which manufacturers will be most willing to help- has anyone here ever worked with any of these turbo builders?

I haven't played with turbos for a long time.
I would research the options and who ever is the most willing to help would be who I spent my money with. Just my 2 cents

The expensive part is the hot side and the turbo itself. Stainless or steel ceramic coated are the safest. bet.....http://www.proturbokits.com/store/sc...?idproduct=148 this will save alot of Fab work but is a bit pricey. If you were to piece on together and spent all the time to do the fab work you may find a hot side kit to be less of a pain. Hope this helps a little !!!!!

What I would like to do is mount the turbo(s) remotely. That is, behind the transmission. I am thinking that fabbing long runner pipes back to the intake from underneath the car is going to be easier than trying to fit everything I need in the engine bay... This car is tight enough already.
Do you think it would be better to get a pair of turbos with built in bypass valves or install them externally?
Any thoughts???

You are going to need something to pump the oil back to the pan if you do a remote located turbo, most systems are set-up to drain back from gravity. I would try to keep the turbo above the oil pan. You are going to probably end up with a little lag if you move them to far from the engine compartment. Something to consider is a tubular K-frame, they free up a ton of space for running the hot and cold piping. Relocating the battery will free up space and you'll no longer need the factory air box, that said you will make up a ton of space.

remote mounts will increase lag but you'll get more power due to the air being colder. it's also a lot more sleeperISH =

The oiling won't be a problem- I am going to mount a stand alone oiling system in my trunk with an electric oil pump, a small scavenge pump and a cooling system. That will allow for the turbo to have oil pressure before the engine turns over.
After some mathematical figuring, the lag should not be a problem, because there is actually less volume in the piping than there is in a medium size intercooler.
