87 dakota POS

i have an 87 dakota v6 4x4 that im using only for the winter here in alaska. when its really cold i have trouble starting it and sometimes it goes dead on me if i dont give it enough gas. when i give it to much gas it tries to cut-off as well. one of my good friends says it could be a carburator problem and needs to be cleaned out. is this the problem or could it be something else? and if it is that then how much will it cost to get it cleaned (estimate?)? Thanks MM!!
