Cop Cars

I was just wondering what differences there are between a cop crown vic, and a reg. crown vic., and also between the new charger cop cars and the stock chargers.

Engine/power wise. Nothing. Nothing at all.

PI and the car they resemble are identical off the assembly line.

Aftermarket companies will put in the cages, bars, mounting whatnots for the guns and stuff, radios, extra alternators for the electrical load, laptop mounting pods, light bars, etc etc.

+1 on 2000. They aren't different power wise.

In other words... they are lame.

Don't go and try outrunning them...

Can't outrun that damn radio.

Sure you can't. Once they have your tags your done for. Trust me.

Now, if your moving fast... your okay as long as they don't grab those digits.

or you can just keep your car really dirty, which up here isn't a bad idea sence most of the roads are dirt

But so then could you by the same car from ford and it would have the same power and everything, not that i would i'm just wondering

Yeh but i'd assume an officer might giv you a ticket for not having your license plate visible. They'll give you a ticket for anything nowadays, and a dirty license plate almost sounds like a legitimate reason.

i dunno about the crown vics, but i know about the 9C1 Police Interceptor Caprice.. the 9C1 had a ton more performance than the regular Caprice. 9C1 had LT1 350 (corvette/camaro/impalaSS engine from 94-97), most had 4 wheel disc brakes, silicone hoses, bigger front & rear sway-bars, heavier duty springs & all bushings in the car were polyurethane.... i have a 9C1 caprice & it is actually really quick for a big car... plus they were geared really high so they have a lot of top speed...

but i know nothing about the crown vic cop cars....

Believe it or not, I just talked to a cop about this last nite. We talked about his Impala that was his cop car. Motor is stock, they have a tranny cooler, upgraded breaks, and a form of racing suspension. I assume other model cop cars are close to the same.

There are different varieties of cop cars. Back in my towing days, we used to tow quite a few cop cars.I had a flatbed tow truck, and believe me, when you got that crown vic or impala off the ground, it was WAY heavier than a civilian car of the same make.Your average cop car has a stock engine, usually a heavy duty cooling system W/trans cooler, and heavier suspension, and where I live, the highway patrol also had extra metal on the frame and under the bumpers.
As for the chase cars, I was never able to get any of the cops I knew to tell me what was in them, but usually they had a bumped up version of whatever the motor of the day was, like the Impalas would have the Impala SS engine with a few tweaks done to them. All I know is if you ever saw them fly by on the highway, you just knew that with all that extra weight on them there was no way they could be stock. lol

i know for a fact that the 1991-1996 Chevy Caprice 9C1 came with the LT1. the motor is the same as the Z28's & impala SS of that era. i have built 3 9C1 cop cars & i still own one. the stock caprices of the 91-96 era came stock with 305's except for the rarer LTZ which came with a 350 although it was not an LT1.

we built the cop cars instead of the impalas because A. they are WAY cheaper, B. have the same engine performance, C. trans cooler, oil cooler, bigger front & rear swaybars...

if you can get your hand on a 9C1 for cheap they are a good buy. make GREAT sleeper cars!

here's a pic of my ghetto cruiser right after i finished the rebuild..

What are the glare-ons you're talking about... is that the plate you buy that goes over your license plate that is supposed to be resistant to the red light cameras?

THIS SITE shows some of the differences. There are slight differences between the Crown Vic cop car and civilian model engines in the later years, but no serious HP additions.
