Its a little long but please read, im trying to as many details as possible...

Ok my gf's 2000 Malibu started fine for her last week then she put it in reverse and when she went to put it back into drive it died...she then put it back into park started it up fine again and when she went to put it back into drive it died again before it even got into D. Then it would not start backup, about 20 minutes later it started up then it died quickly.

This was 1 week ago, we thought it was the fuel pump (did not hear any noise from it when turning the key) and all the battery and alternator is good, we get spark...so figured it was the fuel pump so we bought one and the car has been sitting for a week straight and we just went out there now to try to start it and it fired right up, she backed up and drove forward (TWICE), we then shut it off and tryed to start it and NOTHING, it wouldnt start.

So my question is wat the hell could it be? Can it still be the fuel pump? I figured if it was no good it was no good... Could it be the fuel filter? the wiring for the fuel pump? Bad gas (she was less then querter tank)? Any suggestions would be great as she has no car for work right now, and dont want to install the fuel pump if it wont help.

fuel pumps can work like shit, let dont just always stop working, my ex's car had a screwy fuel pump. sometimes it wouldnt start so I had to get under the car and kick the fuel pump and it would work fine. if it was bad gas it would just run like total shit as for the fuel filter. if she starts it and lets it sit will it run and not die?
