Ricer math?

So, if a cai gives someone 2 hp and exhaust gives them 3 hp, I figure that they've gained 5 hp. Someone told me thats "ricer math." Why can't you do that?

i think its because, mods like those don't give you an exact amount of HP, they give you a percentage

usually with larger things like cams and new heads or w/e, u cant just add the 2 together because they will add different amounts of hp.
ex.
exhaust on my 140hp mustang= mabe 2-3ish hp
exhaust on my 400hp supercharged nitroused up mustang=20-30ish hp

although same exhaust set up, it is different when coupled to another mod.

As a former import owner (03 Mitsu Evo ) I can see where the confusion would lie. Any mod done to a car seperatly will have minimal effects... In most cases. Where if it is coupled with a few others at the same time, it will generate a greater overall increace of power. Now, forced induction vehicle will respond MUCH greater to say, a cat-back or header(s). I had such effects. I had all the usualy bolt-ons Header, CAI,
T-back exhaust, MBC(manual boost controller) upgraded BOV, fuel computer, etc. My car came rated @276CHP, I was pushing well over 350AWHP w/ those few parts. NO Honada Civic or Integra or even a WRX will see that kind of improvement. Not gonna happen.

Point being, a N/A and a F/I vehicle will give varying degrees of respone to mods that are made, regardless of make and model. There is no "ricer math" or "domestic math".

Facts are facts. If the dude rollin in a Civic w/ 20's and a floppy body kit thinks he's faster with a different muffler, he is retarded. He ain't.

To guage the mods better, look above at the previous post (villatic). Think percentage, not a dedicated number gains.

There's also the "ricer math" that says that mod A makes a 10-15hp gain and mod B makes a 20-30hp gain, so mod A & B must make a 30-45hp gain. We all know this is untrue. A single mod on an otherwise stock engine may make the claimed increase, but you can't say that for an engine otherwise modified. Percentage is one way to be more realistic, but even then just because you have various mods that should be adding 100% more power doesn't mean you've doubled your horsepower.

It doesn't really matter. If a ricer tries to ad HP to their car its pointless. All we have to do is get a GT and match what they put in theirs. Mustangs will still be faster, more power, and better built.

Nice lol...
"I got the new NOS and Apexi graphics pack on my car, man. Ran a 16 flat in the 1/4. And I hit the button. Not the nitrous button, the horn button. I read in Imports-R-Slow, that doing that will drop your ET's by like 19lbs and scare a Camaro, man. It was WIKKID!!!"
