Yeah i dunno i just like the way it sounds/looks over the Evo. Grated i like them both, but would choose the sti if I had the choice of one or the other.

I know for a fact that a disproportionate amount of insurance claims were getting filed that involved a WRX.

I think the issue was that kids wanted them because turbo==fast, and parents were buying them for their kids because AWD==safe; too bad that driver ability trumps car ability every time.

Any performance car has higher rates even mustangs. When alot of kids are crashing them cuz its more car than a new driver can handle its a goin to affect rates. AWD giving more control isnt really correct. Yes you get more traction, off the line and can put more power down out of a corner, 4 wheels instead on 2, but once you loose control those 4 powered wheels dont help and if you start sliding and your on the gas ALL 4 wheels are spinning, not just 2 like on a RWD mustang. With 4 wheels without grip you slide more rapidly then if only the back wheels were goin out, its a more sudden loss of grip and if you dont know what your doing your really screw!

but then doesnt that also mean that any of the 4 wheels could have traction? i mean if one of the wheels had traction wouldnt the power be then sent to that wheel? im just trying to understand awd better.

A simple mechanical AWD sytem works exactly the same as the differential in a RWD system, only with more power splits. Intead of the single split between left rear and right rear, the power is split first between front and rear, and then between left and right at each end.

Again, much the same as a RWD diff, if you have some form of limited slip in those differentials, a slipping wheel will cause a differential to lock up, sending power to the other side of that diff. In case of the center diff, having one end of the car slipping more will cause power to be sent to the other end.

Some of the more advance AWD systems have wheel slip detection that will cause the brake on that wheel to engage, sending up to 100% of the power that wheel was receiving to the other side of the differential. If both wheels on one end were slipping, brakes would be applied, and that power would be sent to the other side of the center diff.

If the computer is fast enough, you can only have one wheel slipping if all wheels are slipping.

Reverand is right. To expand a lil, think bout a rwd car. You can spin both tires even with a good differential right? Same for AWD, yes it will send power to the wheel with grip, but say 3 wheels lost traction, the last is gonna be right at the limit making up for the other 3. Give it some gas and now the last tire losses grip. Unlike in a rwd car where the front always has grip and you can counter steer. Im not saying awd is bad, its just different and you have to recognize that or youll get into trouble.

I love the look of the older STI's (like the 04). The new ones are better, but don't like as nice. I got to drive a brand new one at work and it was great, just wish it looked like the old one. If i could, i'd get the EVO X over a new STI.
