f-body over 4.6 hands down any day of the week, well, except for the ugly ass new camaro. everything is so much better about them minus the plugs. i personally lilke the lt1 as well, minus the opti. the only think i hate about the f-body is the pewny 7.5 out back.

takes h/c/i to make real power??? hell, it takes a hell of a lot more than that for the 4.6 to compete.

ls1tech.com is a good place to start (and I'm not trying to be a smart ass at all). I learned so much about the cars after I joined. I wish I would have checked them out before I bought my first ls1 car than I would have realized I was paying way too much.

I'm a big fan of 4th gens, but they are a different animal compared to the Mustangs. The rearend is the #1 weak link, but I think they get a bad rap. I never had any problems with mine. And I'll say right now, I think the f-body rear is tougher than the IRS in the cobras.

As far as interior quality, from someone that has seat time in both cars, they both suck equally. My Z28 was a rattle trap, but my SS was vey sturdy and sound. I would place my Cobra just below my SS as far as noise and rattles, but I'm hopeing that once I get the entire full tilt boogie kit in some of that slop and rattle will stop.

Nothing wrong with a little boost. The 4.6 was practically made for boost, sans for the internals on the GTs .

I would go with the ls1 if your looking for more power. H/C/I will get you about 420-450 hp. You would need to put a lot more into a 4.6 to compete.

O rly?

01 trans am ws6

365 rwhp with just bolt ons and full exhaust.

400 rwhp+ after a texas speed ms3 cam.

Just what do you consider "real power" to be?

IMO, the camaro is a bit more money to get into than a simple 2V GT or even some 3V's, but the potential they have is far better than the SOHC mustangs. Im not bashing on you 2V and 3V guys, but being able to put down 400+ with simple mods and run in the 11's fairly cheap after initial purchase is pretty damn good.

simple comparison in town... 03 Cobra(stage IV ported blower and boltons making 480whp) cant compete with a 02 SS Camaro(Cam, LT's, trac arm, misc suspension, and 150shot 400whp N/A). The cars are day and night to each other though. the Camaro eats the Cobra alive in the 1/4, but on a roll its somewhat close.

A bolt on cammed LS1 will make 400rwhp all day of the week....

a 12bolt/9" bolt on cammed LS1 + 150 shot will walk right down into the low 11/high 10 range.

I think I'm misinformed then. How much power is a H/C/I LS1 supposed to make, more than 420 RWHP?

depends. buddy in town is making 400 with just a cam. 420 is at the bottom of the normal range, but id like to say 450 is about average.

420-450 is about average. The highest I've seen is just a hair over 500rwhp. That's VERY rare, but shows the pottential.

I dont know if this will help you but my friend has a LT1 98 Camaro with the only mod being a K & N intake kit. I have a 84 Mustang 5.0 with a high rise and 4 barrel. I kick his ass every day of the week. His Camaro runs a 15.3-15.7 up here at mile high. My stang has ran its best time of 13.99.

No such thing as a 98 LT1, 97 was the last year for the LT1. My LT1 car ran 14.7 stock at Bandimere, I got it down to 12.30's. So either your friend can't drive, there is something wrong with his car or it was a hot day and the DA just sucked, not that its ever good up there.

Yeah 97 was the last year for F body LT1's. I've built more than a few of them, thats why LT1 is in my name.... I "like" a LSx motor, but the LT is just as easy to get decent power out of. The changing plugs issue isn't that bad. Jack the front and crawl underneath. I got it down to under 20 minutes for a 8 plug swap on a LTx. Plus now in my area you can get a LSx car for about the same price as a 87-93 fox....

Mid 15's on a LTx motor is horrible.

And for the record I hate the new gen Camaro's. And my sig was done way before this thread started...
