99 Lumina - Car Alarm Help

My parents have been having trouble with the car alarm on their 99 Lumina for a few months now. After unlocking the doors the car is ok for roughly 2 minutes before there's a loud beep. Opening the doors after that will trigger the alarm and it won't stop until the remote unlock is pressed. Today a new problem arose, the remote stopped working. I have the key to manually open the door but when I do the alarm will go off and won't stop until the unlock button on the remote is pressed. So..

If I open the door, pop the hood, and disconnect the battery I know it will stop the car alarm but if I leave it disconnected for a while, will it possibly reset the alarm so it won't continue this madness? If not, any ideas?

Also, as far as I know, the alarm system is what originally came in the vehicle.

if it is a factory alarm then try closing the door and unlocking it with the key as some vehicles will disarm if unlocked. Other then that are they aware of any valet switches or anything else in the vehicle? Also, check under the drivers side dash to see if you see any black boxes that might be randomly placed as that may be the brain for the unit.
Usually just by disconnecting the battery it will not reset the alarm you would either have to fix the remote or pull the brain out completely.

There's no valet switch that I'm aware of. I'll look for a brain unit once I get a chance. I'm totally going to look suspicious with the alarm going off and I'm sitting there looking under the dash

, if you look underneath and see any type of fuses not in a fuse box chances are that they are for the alarm

you'll be alright... you would be surprised of how many times and alarm goes off and nobody really pays attention to it.

Hey wriath do you have any idea if Luminas have anything similar to our PATS? Went out to start it up today and the alarm was really quiet (sometimes happens) but turning the key did nothing. It didn't even try to start. I pulled the Mustang over and jumped it but it wouldn't even try to start. The alarm just quietly went off until I gave up.

alright, just checked. The 99 lumina is equipped with a VATS system (Vehicle Anti-Theft System). There should be a little black piece on the shaft of your key. Im gonna find out after I get off of work what the "Alarm Disarm" wire is so that you can just simply disable the device. I know that it is a Tan wire just dont remember where the location is at.

Thanks wraith you're amazing Some shop my mom called wanted $60-$100 to diagnose the problem. I can tell them the problem, the alarm won't shut up. My parents don't even want it fixed, they just want the alarm to stop altogether

Hey wraith I just wanted to let you know my parents ended up having the car towed to possibly the only place in town that works on car electronics and come to find out the previous owner installed an aftermarket security system. The bastard was on some sort of full lock down so they removed the system and the car runs great now I'll be keeping the stock security system in my stang lol
