Very true, that got me wondering which one would actually be the better vehicle for pulling a trailer. I thought I'd throw together a little comparison:

Torque:
WRX- 235lb-ft@3600RPM
LeSabre- 230lb-ft@4000RPM
The WRX has a bit more torque, but the turbo makes the torque band a bit peaky. The LeSabre's flatter torque band would be preferable for towing.
Advantage: LeSabre.

Frame:
WRX- unibody
LeSabre- body-on-frame
The rigidity of the Buick's full frame means it can pull more weight than the Subaru.
Advantage: LeSabre.

Gears:
WRX- 1st-2.785, 2nd-1.545, 3rd-1.00, 4th-0.684, final 3.9:1 (automatic transmission)
LeSabre- 1st-2.92, 2nd-1.56, 3rd-1.00, 4th-0.70, final 2.84:1
Very similar transmission gears, WRX's final is better for in-town/local hauling, LeSabre's final is better for long distance highway hauling, just depends on where the owner is taking the trailer.
Advantage: Tie.

Drivetrain:
WRX- advanced Subaru AWD
LeSabre- FWD
GM '90s FWD vs. Subaru rally-developed AWD, no comparison. The Subaru will provide superior traction in all conditions.
Advantage: Subaru

Brakes:
WRX- ABS, 11.5" ventilated discs/4-piston calipers, 11.3" ventilated rear discs
LeSabre- ABS, 10.94" front discs, rear drums
Advantage: WRX.

Maximum Towing Capacity:
WRX- 2000lbs
LeSabre- 3000lbs
Advantage: LeSabre.

The LeSabre can pull more weight and would be more comfortable if you were towing your trailer long highway distances. The WRX's better final drive ratio, brakes, and traction would be better if you were taking a smaller trailer on mountain roads, through heavier traffic, or if you are expecting hazardous road conditions.

When you have a Ford Ranger packing a turbo 4-cylinder, all you can do is park in the back of the car show and realize that you're one-of-a-kind.

LOL, never seen a wrx haul a boat....
I would get a 98+ F-150 you can find them for the 8k that you have. might even find an FX4 in that price range, not at a dealership tho, try craigslist.

For a small boat, just grab a Ranger with a 4.0L and an automatic.
