1985 Ford Ranger

I got a ranger that i wanna fix up but im not sure what engine i want in it.. i have a few choices so far.. a 390 with a automatic tranny,a 390 with a 4 speed Manual, or a 351Modified with a automatic tranny... im not leaving the 4 banger in there not enough power.. which thats what im wanted good bottom and top end.. speed/power any ideas guys? i didnt wanna have to hang a clutch and shit so i was wanting to go with one of the automatic choices.. tell me what u think i should do..

well, my understanding is that the Ranger and Explorer share the same chassis, and the Explorer had an optional 5.0. That means to me that doing a 302 or 351W are probably going to be the easiest.

If you're insisting on more cubes and you're considering a 351M, why not just grab the 400? Same block, I think they're the same dimensions externally (if not, the 400 isn't that much bigger).

Going with any V8 in a light vehicle like a ranger, I'd be going with an auto, too. If you go with a smallblock, you have the advantage of finding an auto with overdrive pretty easily.
