stupid bolt on questions

i have one....

i know that i should know the answer to this. but, i've never owned a modular motor before. and, i'm not really sure where i can gain the most out of my truck with the least ammount of effort. i know, cheap, fast, reliable... pick two. but, my question is, what are some small things i can do to get a little more out of my weak engine. it's disappointing that a full size 4x4 is only rocking 260HP/350TQ at the crank. and those are factory numbers, so who really knows. i would really like to up that to 300-ish without getting into a shit ton of work. and without spending thousands. might be far fetched. but, if any of you guys have any experience with these things, i would greatly appreciate the advice.

i'm already looking at a JLT intake. 8-12 HP/10-14 TQ (claimed) gain at the wheels isn't bad for 140 bucks. but that's the only idea i've got so far.

thanks in advance.

Start with the basics. Tune, Intake, and Exhaust. Those three things should get you close to 300 (flywheel), AND improve your fuel economy a little bit during normal driving.

word. i've got bigger issues now though. i've had two freakin coil packs go in the last month. and one was replaced right before i bought the thing in december. after some research, i'v found that this is pretty common on the 5.4l in these trucks. it wouldn't be such a pain in the ass if they weren't 70-80 bucks each and easier to get to on the driver side (which is where they keep going bad)

Bone yard coil packs maybe?

after a ton of research, i've found that many people are having/have had this issue with the 5.4L in f150s and expeditions. it seems that it's directly related to wet weather. one forum that i was on had a thread about this. the guy sprayed his windshield with a hose and found that there was a substantial amount of water dripping down on to the driver side valve cover and splashing the coils on the driver side. both times that i had an issue were right after heavy rains. he said that he had to trim some bullshit and silicone it up to keep it from dripping on his engine. i may have to look into that.

tons of people have had this issue and i wonder why nothing was ever done by ford to remedy the issue. fuckers.

note to self, never try to clean a 5.4L engine. i can't imagine what would happen if i took a hose to that shit.

do you get a ton of rain? i've read that some people don't experience this issue and there is a slight difference in the way something is set up under the hood effecting the way water drains off of the windshield. maybe you are one of the lucky ones. maybe i just got a piece of shit.
