Just got a 99 Explorer

Just recently got a 99 Explorer Sport with the 4.0 SOHC given to us by a friend who can no longer drive it. For the past 3 years it's been rarely driven, (less than 3k done to it) and it's got 144k on it right now.

There is a weird freaking problem it has though. Upon startup the Check Gage light comes on and the oil pressure stays below the low line, but after a few restarts, it'll jump up to the normal range in a millisecond. There are no odd sounds, which to me suggest it may just be the gauge, but I want to be 100%. Oil is full, and just changed, so I'm out of ideas.

I might just change it again to be 100% sure it was done right.
Once the oil pressure goes up it rides and drives fine, but I just don't want to risk seizing the engine...

What should I do after changing the oil? I'm gonna take it to a mechanic but I'd rather try and fix it myself first.

Check the sending unit, and gauge wiring.
My daughter has on with the 5.0 AWD, there great trucks. You shouldn't have many issues at all.
