Just got a 99 Explorer
Just recently got a 99 Explorer Sport with the 4.0 SOHC given to us by a friend who can no longer drive it. For the past 3 years it's been rarely driven, (less than 3k done to it) and it's got 144k on it right now.
There is a weird freaking problem it has though. Upon startup the Check Gage light comes on and the oil pressure stays below the low line, but after a few restarts, it'll jump up to the normal range in a millisecond. There are no odd sounds, which to me suggest it may just be the gauge, but I want to be 100%. Oil is full, and just changed, so I'm out of ideas. I might just change it again to be 100% sure it was done right. Once the oil pressure goes up it rides and drives fine, but I just don't want to risk seizing the engine... What should I do after changing the oil? I'm gonna take it to a mechanic but I'd rather try and fix it myself first. |

Check the sending unit, and gauge wiring.
My daughter has on with the 5.0 AWD, there great trucks. You shouldn't have many issues at all.
